Yes, You would need to route each instrument to a separate audio output to add Audio Effects to the individual instruments. If you don't need or want to tweak the midi any more then you can freeze or bounce the instrument tracks so that they are audio.
In either case, you need an separate audio track for each sound you want to apply a different effect to.
How do you accomplish this?
Thanks!

Hopefully I am asking this question so it's not confusing. I have a MIDI file of a jazz piece I composed many years ago on one of my Kawai hardware sequencer. I've imported the .mid file into Cakewalk to work on. I've assigned all the midi tracks to Cakewalk TTS-1 for instruments and everything plays just fine. My question however is, how do I add affects to the individual instrument tracks? I want to add some Reverb to the drums and horn section tracks however, there is no option to allow me to do this. Do I need to separate out the audio to individual tracks from the MIDI in order to do this? And if so, how?
Thanks

BTW if you were to use soft synths i.e. VSTis you wouldn't have this problem. I use Kontakt as well as a whole bunch of other VSTis to create sound. Once you have your sounds where you want them all you do is freeze the VSTis and the audio is now ready for mixing.
In the distant past I used hardware synths which I still have. A Sound Canvas SC 8850 and a Roland XV 5080. Plus a drum machine. It was tedious to record each MIDI channel. Although the sound was OK they can not compete with a good sampled library.
What problem are you referring to? The original MIDI sequence I am referring to is an original composition that I created many many years ago all created on the SY77. I managed as posted in another thread go get the MIDI sequence from the SY77 into Cakewalk. MIDI sequences on the SY77 are not stored as a .mid file so I needed to play the sequence from the SY77 into my Kawai Q80ex, save as a .mid file and open in Cakewalk in order to separate all the tracks. I was able to create a complete audio track of all the combined individual tracks but wanted to create separate audio tracks for each of the 16 different MIDI tracks. I accomplished this by playing the MIDI sequence from Cakewalk back into the SY77 soloing each individual MIDI track and recording just that track. Mission accomplished. So, again what problem? This had nothing to do with .vst's. This had to do with getting the actual MIDI instruments from the SY77 into a recording.
And yes... I am using soft synths and other plug in instruments for all my other projects in Cakewalk. I just needed to get the actual instruments from my composition on the SY77 into a recording with separate audio tracks for each instrument of the particular sequence/composition. This is not something that is an ongoing process. I appreciate the help however, you guys are thinking WAY to much into all of this.
Anyway..again as stated. Mission accomplished.

If you use all 16 channels and you want each on a separate audio track you will need to solo one MIDI track at a time and record the audio from the Sy77. Each to a new track. Than you can mix it down to suit you. Or you could record once with all 16 MIDI channels into one stereo audio track. Once you do you wont be able to mix anything though.
Correct. I already have a stereo mix of all 16 channels. The want here is to have a separate audio track for each one of the 16 MIDI channels. And yes, do it one at a time does indeed work which is what I am in the process of doing. Thanks!

If you get a used TG77 - I believe it has 8 individual outputs. It plays all the SY77 sounds but has no keys. That would go a long way.
That would certainly be handy however, that does not solve my current issue and is not in the plans.

I could sure use some help here.
- I have a 16 MIDI channel sequence loaded up in Cakewalk.
- The MIDI out of my Digital Audio Interface is plugged into the MIDI in of my Yamaha SY77 which has all the instruments for each individual MIDI channel. The sequence already has the patch/program changes within the sequence for each MIDI channel.
- The SY77 has a left and right stereo output which I have coming back into my DAI into Cakewalk.
- I would like to play the MIDI sequence from Cakewalk into the SY77 and record each separate individual instrument from each separate MIDI channel to individual audio tracks.
How would I go about accomplishing this?
Thanks!

I was not able to get it to work with the SY77 connected up to Cakewalk. However, I connected the SY77 to my Kawai Q80ex sequencer and was able to get it to work. So issue is now solved and I now have the files in .MID format.

My HW sequencer has a setting to send MIDI Clock. I had that turned off. So now the transport buttons on the HW start and stop Cakewalk. Not sure how you tell the SY77 how to transmit MIDI clock.
I am still working on getting Cakewalk to follow the HW clock itself. Sec.
It used to work.
UPDATE: It is working (now that I turned on my HW to send the clock) insofar as the Cakewalk transport is synced to external hardware start, stop, and clock. I forgot about the issue with Cakewalk's metronome. I forget how I solved that. So, if HW is at 143 BPM and Cakewalk is at 40 BPM, the Cakewalk metronome is at 40 BPM.
BTW, the Audio - Sync and Caching settings also affect how Cakewalk responds to external clock/sync.
Also, depending on what you are doing in Cakewalk, the following might be relevant:
Did you get your setup to work with the SY77?
NO

I have my SY77 plugged into Cakewalk through my UMC404HD audio interface and Cakewalk does see the SY77. I can see the meters moving when I start the sequencer on the SY77.
-
I didn't press the start button. I pressed the RECORD button to the right with the red dot and got the message you indicate. I just tried again pressing the start button instead of the record button and get the same message however Cakewalk does not record.
-
I must be missing something here. I have Cakewalk set as Preferences / Project-Clock / MIDI Sync. The SY77 is set to send the MIDI clock. I have Cakewalk setup as an EMPTY project with one MIDI track inserted. Cakewalk is armed to record and the record button is pressed however, when I start the SY77 Cakewalk hears the MIDI input but the transport does not start recording.
-
Also, according to this link, http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=4&help=Synchronizing.05.html in order to configure Cakewalk to be the SLAVE I must go to Preferences / Project-Clock. Where is Project-Clock? I don't see this anywhere? How do I configure BLCW as the SLAVE?
UPDATE: Ok, I found Project=Clock after setting Preferences to ADVANCED and set it to MIDI sync however, nothing happens when I hit play on the SY77 sequencer.

Ok, so it sounds like Cakewalk needs to be the SLAVE and my SY77 the MASTER in this case. Cool. What about my other question?

I have a number of compositions I created many years ago on my Yamaha SY77. The SY77 has a built in multi voice sequencer but uses it's own proprietary file format meaning it does not save as a .mid file format. I would like to get these sequences into Cakewalk and have a couple questions:
1. If I connect a MIDI cable from the SY77 OUT into my UMC404HD which supports MIDI and play the sequence on my SY77, will Cakewalk record the sequence and separate all the individual tracks? If so is there anything in particular I need to setup within Cakewalk prior to doing this?
2. I assume I would need to have Cakewalk listen for a MIDI clock start command? If so, how is this setup in Cakewalk?
Thanks in advance!

Assuming you'll be using your Keystation 49 to trigger a virtual synth, you can perform / record a simultaneous vocal track through your audio interface.
If you're unsure how to set this up let me know and I'll upload a screenshot.
Yes please. I would like a screenshot. Thanks!

Thanks Songroom for the very clear answer here. I appreciate it.
So, one more question. Under DEVICES it does list the Keystation 49 MK3 as you show and also my UMC404HD digital audio interface. Is it OK to have both the keyboard and the DAI checked at the same time? I am hoping so as there are times when I would want to play the keyboard and sing into a mic at the same time.
Thanks

My new Keystation49 controller does not have a MIDI in or out. It only has USB connection. My Roland MIDI controller has MIDI in and out which plugs directly into my digital audio interface. How do I use the Keystation keyboard with Cakewalk as it is supposed to plug directly into my computer? How do I tell Cakewalk to listen to the keyboard?

Use Task Manager to stop all running copies of Bandlab Assistant.
Navigate to C:\Users\ yourusername\AppData\Roaming\ Bandlab Assistant\ Downloads.
Run the file Cakewalk_by_BandLab_Update_Setup_26.09.0.006.exeThanks! That worked. However, when I go to C:\Users\ yourusername\AppData\Roaming\ Bandlab Assistant\ there is no Download folder. There is only a Logs folder. But under C:\Users\ yourusername\AppData\Roaming there is another folder called bandlab-assistant (lower case plus hypen) and it did contain the Download folder where I was able to install the Cakewalk update.

Yes, I've upgraded to the latest version of BandLab Assistant. No difference. Same crap happens.
So, how do I update Cakewalk now? It's been stuck at updating 3 plus hours now. How do I fix this? This is maddening!
-
I launched BL Cakewalk today to work on a project and got a notice of an update. I clicked Update which brought me to Bandlab Assistant and I clicked up date there. That was over an hour ago. It's just hanging and flashing at INSTALLING. So.. can't work on my project.
How do I fix this?

Thanks for the explanation!

I am using the Behringer U-Phoria UMC4040HD Digital Audio Interface with Bandlab Cakewalk. The Behringer U-Phoria UMC4040HD comes with a power supply however, everything with the Behringer U-Phoria UMC4040HD seems to work just fine only with the power it receives from the USB connection to my computer without the power supply plugged in. Is there a benefit I am missing by not using the power supply for my audio digital interface?

It wouldn't be an actual stereo track - but you can bounce to track and change the interleave in a couple of different ways. Your track inputs should allow you to choose left - right or stereo. You are likely selecting stereo input on the track input - and it's trying to record a stereo track. If you select either input 1 or input 2 related to which input you're actually using - it should record a mono track.
ah... ok, I will try that.

Ok, thanks... that worked.

Where is the SNAP to Grid option? I don't see it anywhere!
