When I upgraded my PC, I created a Windows 10 USB stick. It was a while ago now, but according to that link the method still works

  2. This is from the requirements page:

    Activation

Computer-based or iLok USB dongle (2nd or 3rd generation), Melodyne essential only computer-based. Internet access is required for the first activation.

and this is from the FAQ:

    Quote

How many activations can be transferred to an iLok dongle?

If you bought a "Melodyne assistant”, "Melodyne editor” or "Melodyne studio” edition, you can transfer only one of the two activations to an iLok2 or iLok3 USB dongle. One of the two activations always has to remain with our computer-based activation system.

Please be aware that we do not support iLok’s Cloud activation system. You need an iLok2 or iLok3 USB dongle to activate the supported "Melodyne” editions.

so it looks like iLok is optional, but you need at least one activation on Celemony's system.

Damn, you must be right. But the effect range for a Modo Harp would have been very interesting. Probably not their intent, but the sign reminded me of a futuristic harp...

If it's not MODO Harp and you still want a modelled harp, you can always look at Pianoteq and its harp instrument pack...

Yup they sound great and hopefully won't take up too much storage as they are modelled sounds. Cheaper to get all 6 instruments but I might wait for a BF/Christmas deal.

I don't think they do the typical sales. I remember reading an email a while ago saying that while they didn't do the usual sales, they were doing a one-off sale to celebrate something or other. They might change their mind, I don't know. In any case, this might be the one you're after (take a seat and put down anything fragile before you look at the price... which isn't that bad for what you're actually getting)

Sure have, and SWAM stuff plus a breath controller.. OMG!.  I am amazed how cheap these SWAM instruments are compared to the usual ones as a VST. It'll be interesting to see how many types get added over time!.

They've recently added solo brass (trumpet, trombone, horn) instruments to their line-up. I seem to remember from reading their roadmap that ensembles were up next - things have slowed a little from their original timeline, but apparently it's still their plan.

  6. This sounds quite amazing - it seems like the devs really put a lot of effort into making a ready-made piano sound. Does anyone know if it 'works' in the mix? While the environments and spaciousness sound great, it seems like it might stand apart from the other instruments/reverbs that are also in a song.

  7. I think the last time I saw 50%, it was for bundles rather than single plugins; it was either for BF, or the Christmas end-of-year sale (can't remember which).

Does anyone know if FabFilter allows a student discount on top of a sale price? i.e. during Black Friday?

@Zo might know the answer to this - I seem to remember he gets an educator's discount on some things

  8. I'm considering picking up a few of Melda's plugins the next time they go on sale. I've never bought any before, but I did pick up a freebie they gave out a few years ago. Does anyone know if I'll be able to use someone's referrer code to get a discount (not asking for someone's code just yet)? It'll be the first time that I buy their plugins, but it/they won't be the first in my account (because I previously picked up a freebie).

FWIW - the resizing on Windows is pretty poor, the quality image quality is terrible....75% and the text is unreadable - 150% and all the images are out of focus..... and with things like Waves Tune you don't actually get any extra space to work in

    AND

the new preset browser is like an weird addon - pretty clumsy.

So no real reason to WUP if you haven't already....and I quite like waves (runs and hides !)

Maybe the v13 WUP will include important and ground-breaking features such as

    • Readable text at more zoom sizes, e.g. 75%
    • Clearer graphics at larger zoom sizes

  10. I'm guessing this is Audio Assault's version of something like TH-U/Bias FX?

Looks kinda cool. Shame there's no demo (understandably as it's a pre-release sale); what's the general opinion about Audio Assault's guitar plugins?

  11. Hope Cinesamples is doing ok - they've been doing back-to-back sales (of various discount rates) every week since their 'build your own Black Friday bundle' sale a few months back. They do have some great sounding (albeit pricey) libraries though.

Then laughed because of how bad I actually have it! >_<

I have been reading that term used on this forum and I always wondered what it meant.....close to 400 VST's later which include 40-50 synths. I have to admit I have a really really really bad case of GAS! 😂😭🤪😩

But are they 400 unique ones, or is it closer to 200 VST2s and 200 of the equivalent VST3s? Maybe if it's the latter it's not so bad... yet 😁

  13. SSS works with Kontakt Player too, so there's no additional cost. In fact, it's currently on sale in the In Session Audio Annual Sale. That said, Skaka is still cheaper.

I'm not set on getting the tablet, but thought that was a requirement  or at least a better way   to do digital art no?

    What  are some other choices?

It's been a while since I've looked at tablets so my knowledge is a little out of date. I'd recommend looking at the range of products that Wacom have - they used to occasionally do bundles with Painter; if you're just starting out though, you might want to just look at some cheaper tablets on Amazon. Keep in mind though that the tablet surface is important: it's difficult to draw on a completely smooth tablet. That said, the coarser the tablet texture, the faster your pen nibs will wear down.

Something else that may not be immediately obvious - it can be tricky to start off if you don't have a tablet that either has a display (very expensive), or that you can overlay some paper onto; it's a little strange to be looking at the screen for feedback, rather than what you're drawing on.

Also, consider a tablet that supports pen tilt. This lets you simulate, e.g. a sharpened pencil - draw with it completely upright and you get a very fine line, like you're drawing with the tip of it; draw with it tilted and you get wider strokes, like you're shading with the edge of your pencil.

    Newbie alert!

I'm collecting these deals for my children to use later on (they're still enjoying drawing by hand and improving there).  Would this  be something they could use as is    or is there more software to buy to  actually use this bundle ?

Painter will work as is. There are numerous brush packs and paper packs that you can buy as add-ons, but there's enough default material in there to do some good artwork. You probably do want to get a graphics tablet if you want to use this seriously, but I see you've already got that under consideration.

Corel do a 'lite' version of Painter (called Painter Essentials) that is much cheaper than Painter at full price. The license is a bit more strict in terms of how many devices you can install to (possibly it's just one - might have remembered incorrectly), but it might be cheaper to get that whenever you/your kids are ready, rather than to keep upgrading to the latest version of full Painter.
