  1. I have to respectfully disagree with my fellow members who think gear is not an issue when it comes to making a quality acoustic guitar recording.

I agree within reason, but using a 14 dollar microphone isn't going to get you the same quality as...

i dont get that studio sound which is found in other youtube covers

Most You tube users there days are using high quality mic's and pre amps, the others are using IPhone audio and mixing it in after the fact (and its obvious) That itself is largely depending on room sound. Close  mic'ing an acoustic guitar at a 1 inch range over the sound hole is not a great idea and is sure to cause your hand to hit it frequently.

Mic'ing from a 4-6 inch range (away from the sound hole) will produce a combination of body and string (fret board) tones and not cause room problems. Unless your playing in a bathroom.

  2. - There is a switch in the control bar to turn on/off the metronome. Possibly by mistake you accidentally clicked that button ?

    - The metronome is routed to the Master Bus. You may have switched your routing by accident ?

    -  Hold down the SHIFT key while starting CbB to restore any files that might have gone missing.

  3. If its a guitar sim and your using a mic, it could be faintly picking it up in the background if your playing through speakers for monitoring.

If its a VST plug in with no mic it could be being picked up through the pick ups.

What kind of VST plug in are you using that needs input echo ? im guessing a guitar sim, especially with that hiss, it sounds like guitar hum, hiss, buzz.

  4. It could be a VST-I plug in preventing the .CWP from opening. Try using Safe mode.

Don't load any plug ins upon entry of the project. You can try to problem solve it if you'd like.. but I would start by saving any Midi files to a separate folder first, this way those wont get toasted.

hi chuck thanks, but the issue is that these 2 URLs should show two different views of the same unread posts:

    https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/discover/unread/&view=expanded

    https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/discover/unread/&view=condensed

the condensed view now looks the same as the expanded view; the expanded view shows more post  info but loads less items and takes more scrolling and clicking "load more activity" to get through the posts

No doubt, I clicked on both links and they both look the same (expanded) Im using IE 11.

Sorry man. hope they fix it.

There is an extensive comparison of DAWs here: https://www.admiralbumblebee.com/DAW-Chart.html.

Not sure you can take this comparison seriously. 1- its last update was in 2018. 2- It shows favoritism toward certain DAWs he spent a more time with. 3- His ratings for Sonar (it was Sonar at the time) are skewed. It almost appears he either didn't find features, or made up a # 1-10.

  7. Hey Rod,

I put all multi tracked drums in a folder. This makes the selection process easy. A lot of videos I've seen on explaining how to edit multi tracked drums have a project with just drums, which is not always practical because typically at this point, the project is complete and only drums need to be selected. Thus you cant just use CNTRL+A to select all.  This video explains the basics.

If you work methodically from left to right, you wont have to keep selecting all drum tracks, the right portion of the track will remain selected and the left portion of the clip (which you just made your edits) becomes de-selected.

One word of caution, don't go crazy lining up every single hit to the grid. These days everything is so over quantized it sounds like machinery. It sounds almost too perfect and ruins the feel of the song (you already know this anyway). A good drum groove always fluctuates in tempo and that's what gives the groove its unique stamp like non other.

  8. Have a look here, sorry if you've already read it

    http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=NewFeatures.10.html

I work a lot in the piano roll but I use the track view for copy/paste selections. In the PRV, things are zoomed in closer for detailed precise work, thus the track view is a great place to copy/paste because there is more viewing room.

I don't expect you to work like I do, im just saying I find the duplicate clip feature useful in its current format because I can highlight exactly what I want to duplicate. Audio is different, there is data at blank spots (nothing present) midi is not, if there is no midi note, the clip ends abrupt according to the last note entry.

  9. arpeggiator automation replies on movements of parameters. If nothing is being moved, nothing is being automated.

    To record arpeggiator automation

1.Right-click the desired arpeggiator parameter in the Track Inspector, and select Automation Write Enable on the pop-up menu.

2.Click the Play button to start playback.

3.Adjust the arpeggiator control as desired. When you are finished recording automation, click the Stop button to stop playback.

Automation (envelope) data appears in the Track view.

    To create arpeggiator automation

In the Track pane, click the track’s Edit Filter control, point to Track Automation > Arpeggiator and select the desired arpeggiator parameter.

Automation (envelope) data appears in the Track view.

  10. I like the idea personally.

I have brought this up a few times but Cakewalk is such a great DAW, I am surprised there hasn't been a state of the art meter added years ago. Any DAW that is used for Mix-down and Mastering processes surely needs a large format meter that can be seen large enough to make accurate, precise measurement readings.

  11. @Bill Phillips Yes sir. Those are great ideas for sure. Everything you outlined in the post above are great editing techniques.

I think though, that the OP is asking for a way to avoid copy/pasting clips around the timeline but instead,

1- Highlight a part and add a marker. Call it "Marker one-Verse"

2- Highlight another part and add a marker. Call it "Marker two- Bridge"

3- Highlight another part and add a marker. Call it "Marker three- Chorus"

Then have a Marker module for ordering these parts Vs. having to copy/paste everything.

Almost like a playlist within one song. A playlist for each individual part/parts of the song. And be able to arrange that playlist of parts to create different arrangements. To audition what would sound best.
