  1. Sure are  a one off!
I mean that in a good way.
I have never heard anything like your style before and I must admit that I do struggle with it sometimes as I cant get my head around it.
    The lyrics are real good.

Great vocal ... rich as chocolate sauce

    Thanks pal.
I enjoyed doing that song...  came very easy on first take.

  4. Thanks Grem.
I dont how else to sing it... as I have never heard anyone else but Elvis sing this song so it very influenced by that.
To be honest this more of my natural voice and people do think I am impersonating... some of the Elvis intuation  is there but I cant help it as its how you remember the song.  Louis Armstrong used to be one of my party pieces as I used to have a trad jass band and play trumpet.
How to do Louis Armstrong with out being Louis Armstrong  LOL.  Will post up later...

  5. Its quite hard not to sound like Elvis as these are the only memories I have of the song... so it does influence your vocal style even when you dont want it too.
Ill try and do another version...   but to be honest I am sure it will creep back in.  😉

Country definitely seems easy for you.  Great playing and singing.  This reminds me of the 80's and early 90's for country music when I was a kid.  Good times!

I need to know what you used for the steel.  Do tell.  I read that you used backing tracks and midi, but honestly, I'm not real familiar with how that kind of stuff works.  You just get the midi, but you have to supply your own virtual instruments or what?

Thank you for your comments and taking the time to listen.
https://impactsoundworks.com/product/pedal-steel/ is one of the best pedal steel virtual instruments I find.
You can download midi tracks for free on the net... there are some quite good ones out there and you just allocate the midi channel to the virtual instrument of your choice.  I also use Band In A Box as a song writing tool... this is a clever piece  of software with real players.. you just put your guitar cords in and off it goes.

Nice job - your vocal is close to the real deal. What fx did you use on the lead vocal?

    Thanks for listening Douglas.

    Duplicate main vocal.
Used Slate Digital Reverb on track one
On second track add stereo delay 9ms Left Channel  15ms Right Channel and then blend in with first vocal.  (just two repeats)

    • Thanks 1
  8. If anyone would like a particular backing track...  shoot me a PM and Ill see if I have it.
I literally have around about 80000 (15tb) of them.,, and I own them all.

  9. I do have band in a box and being a ex karaoke DJ have 1000's of them  🙂
Someone requested an Elvis song...  gonna knock that up quickly!

  10. @Grem thanks for the comments.
I am not that skilled to create such programming.
These are midi based backing tracks.

I am trying out new vocal styles for a new band I have just joined and I am making recordings so they can learn the songs.
I will be putting quite a lot up to my soundcloud account.
This is also a great way to enhance tracks and learn programming.

Decided to concentrate on vocals and how to get them to fit in a mix.
I believe that is one of the hardest things I find about mixing... getting that vocal sound.

The problem with doing your own voice is that you sort of know it..  so very easy to miss pitch problems and also make yourself a little to loud.
Been trying a new technique for me...  play the song at really low volume and then bring in the vocal so I can just hear it.

  11. HI guys.
    Thanks for the comments.
I personally went with a reverb on this one as I thought it had that...  dont know ...  night/space type feel.
My son has told me I am dated in 90's as I use a lot of plate.
I backed off on the Your Man song though.

So there is no misunderstanding... these last two songs I have have not programmed.  (Im not that clever) 🙂
They are midi based backing tracks...  I am trying out new vocal styles for a new band I have joined.
These are so the band can learn the songs and match my key
I do have an Ovation 12 string.

  12. Thanks for the comments guys.
I think I have found my genre  🙂

I did not play the steel guitar...  midi generated.

I recently bought a new Antelope Orion interface and a Drawmar monitor controller which is a huge improvement on my VS-700r
The vocal take was done in one go.. no correction, no double track,  no nothing except compression through SlateDigital Mix rack.
My mic  is a Michael Jolly modded Røde K2.
learned also on my sons comment that I use a lot of plate (very 90's)  this time there is only a small amount of reverb.

Thanks for the comments on taking the vocal down a couple of db's,  as myself when I printed it thought it should go down so its great conformation to know I'm improving.

Gary, this is a pleasant song, and you've managed to fix  some of the glitches that I heard earlier.  I can hear the joy in your voice which is a very good quality for a song of faith.  I have only two minor suggestions:  one, I would boost the bass guitar a bit, and two, I would make the vocal just a bit drier so that it's more in your face and intimate.  Other than that, this is good to go, and congratulations on your first!

@Lynn  thank you for the suggestion.
    I have removed the reverb.

  14. Hi John.
    Listened to your song.
What is wrong with your vocal?
Do you use compression... maybe that will help with dynamic range on the vocal.

    Its a very clever song...

  15. Hi John.
I cant listen to the song as maybe you have removed it now.

The thing is on these forums... sometimes we can be to nice.
Others take constructive criticism hard while others do not.

I personally would like people to rip my recordings to bits then I learn and improve.

    Regarding being nice etc. etc.

You have really got to snap out of this and stop feeling sorry for yourself.
You song writing and musical arrangement skills are good  (better than mine) and so so what...  you dont have the greatest voice on the planet... I don't like Bob Dylan think he sings for Sx@t.. but his writing skills are amazing,

So put you songs back up and stop throwing your rattles out of the pram...   people will be nervous to comment on your songs if they think that their comments will make you want to give up.

Well there ya go...   full barrel!!!
Look forward to hearing more of your music.
    All said in love!!

    Gary
