  1. Reviving this topic because I am encountering the same issue, this time with an arrangement project I started. It seems to be  caused by mfc140u.dll and ucrtbase.dll. Here are the event viewer logs I found. (No minidumps are found, so I am attaching my project) In the attached project, I have 2 synths loaded, Kontakt 6 full with Shreddage 3 Abyss and GGD Invasion.

I have one of the low end Behringer interfaces which uses Asio4all, and I have to say I've had no issues with it.  Latency is extremely low even with a relatively humble CPU and the sound quality is good.

Yes, I know a interface with a dedicated ASIO driver would have been better, but it was what I could afford at the time and I've had exceptional value from it.

That said, am I reading this correctly in that the Windows 10 WASAPI drivers also offer low-latency recording as well?  As if it does, I may well have to give that a try and see how it stacks up.

It's not that. I mean, if they explicitly state that their devices don't have native ASIO drivers, I wouldn't have a problem, for some people that's not a bad trade off to save a few dollars. The issue I have is that they didn't, so we have situations like this where people buy a low end Behringer product, thinking that they're getting native ASIO drivers with them, and then having that nasty surprise sprung onto them.

  3. Keep in mind that V-Vocal is 32-bit, so some of the odd behaviour could be due to BitBridge.

Also, Ctrl-Drag copying works differently to selecting the clip, copying, going to the destination time and track and pasting. It would be a good idea to commit and render the clips as well for the sake of stability. The current song I am working on crashed a lot while using V-Vocal, and they got alleviated once I rendered them.

I dig the groove, and that second bass tone that comes in, very cool. The perc is all over the place, in a very good way.  Hope you are thinking about some lyrics?

That was a very engaging listen.

    cheers,

    -Tom

Haha, I am not a very good vocalist. It's all VSTi's for me!

And also, I have finished layering instruments over this!

    Instruments used:

    • Electronic Drumkit from Roland SCVA
    • Pure from Sektor
    • Modular Granular Piano from LABS
    • Kontakt Factory Violin Section
    • VSCO 2 CE Violin Ensemble
    • Modified Jazzy Guitar from Strum Session 2
    • XLerate from AAS Angelicals
    • Drops of Wisdom (Arp) from AAS Starlight
    • Asto from AAS Frontier

Thanks Bjorn. Glad you liked it!

The strings are CSS. I tried to make them sound bigger towards the end of the second section by subtly layering additional string ensemble patches from GPO 5, though I'm not sure the layering had much of an effect; any suggestions would be appreciated.

Some more bass and brass can help make a mix sound bigger, as does harmonizing the melody.

  6. I decided to try something new, which is to make a song based on loops, leaning heavily on pitch-shifting tools and the Textured Guitars and Action Drums loop packs from the RMX Sampler Pack by Nine Volt Audio. I also used the SCVA Electronic Drum Kit to add some accents.

This already sounds good as is, but I plan to develop this track more with composed synth instruments. Also, suggestions are welcome.

  7. Yeah, don't use 32-bit plugins. The time for them has long since passed, and better 64 bit versions have already replaced them comprehensively. I've had the same issue when digging up old projects from the vault, and Cakewalk keeps crashing as a result due to using plugins like SFZ+ Professional (Replaced by Plogue Sforzando and Roland SCVA) and Cakewalk AmpSim (Replaced with TH3 and Amplitube 4).

CbB handles those types of projects well.  IF you have tons of RAM (64gb may be overkill but things just work better). IF you have a great interface with rock solid drivers (RME, for ex.). IF you have ASIO buffers set correctly for your system and number of VSTs loaded, etc. IF your system CPU etc. is robust enough and OS configured correctly.  IF you are using SSDs for samples.  IF you have antivirus and WiFi off or configured properly. Etc.  etc.  etc. IOW, the more tracks and VSTs and plug ins and automation and stuff you have going on, the more your system will be taxed. So, it all depends.  If your projects have ~100 tracks and multiple VST instances, you need plenty of  horsepower under the hood, properly tuned up to prevent problems. There are workarounds for lesser systems (freeze tracks as you go), but that comes at the cost of flexibility and ease of workflow.

This isn't necessarily true. I am running a system built in 2011 and with the GPU upgraded once in 2014, all my HDDs are spinning platters. I am running an i5 2400k, 8 GB of RAM and on Windows 7 x64. I haven't had to bounce to audio since I had my SD-50

  9. This is a huge trap as after saving a copy as MIDI, the current working file will be saved in the same format. It is easy to forget to manually save as the Normal format too, since the extension shown in the project's header and the file extension still shows up as *.CWP that means you can easily overwrite your project with a MIDI file with the CWP extension without realizing it, and only finding out afterwards when you've closed and reopened the project with no way to recover the original work.

Exactly!  That SC VST is $125, and it’s actually pretty limited too.  I don’t think it’s worth the price.

    SMD

I think it is. A lot of my more recent projects are done using SCVA. And considering how much more expensive other synth libraries go for these days, I think it's worth the price. One of the best $125 I've spent.

I mean you could use the SYXG-50 too, but I wonder about the legality of using it in projects you intend to sell.

I'm not sure why anybody would go out of their way to use sound fonts today for new projects, when much better options exist. Unless it's just for nostalgia or retro purposes to load an old project or something.

It's mostly nostalgia, and the appreciation for people who put countless hours into making them.

  12. A new Studio Instruments release would be nice. I would like to see the strings section get keyswitch articulation and updated samples. An addition of a Woodwinds, Brass and Choir section would be nice, as well as the addition of more oriental instruments, like the Koto, Shamisen, Erhu, Kawala Shakuhachi, and also Guitars, acoustic, electric and hybrids.
