  1. We can all thank Adobe for the surge in software and app subscriptions being offered by other companies. The amount of profit Adobe makes quarter after quarter is just ridiculous. They are the subscription standard and they're just riding this billion dollar cash cow. Not until they all start losing money will those companies stop offering subscriptions. So yeah, we need to hit 'em where it hurts... their wallets. Please don't subscribe, folks. When you subscribe, you're just validating the whole software subscription business model. So, cancel those subscriptions from Adobe, Avid, Capture One, PA, Reason+, Roland, Slate, Mobile Apps, etc. There are alternatives.

  3. Agreed. [edit] I have to say, as of today, I love my Waves plugins. Great quailty, all of them. Outstanding sound from all of them. License systems works well. Are there some things I don't like about Waves plugins? Yep, sure is. But none of them are a show stopper. If they still sell perpetual licenses after the 26th, I will still probably buy more of them. However, if it's sub only, I am outta here. Ever since PA started really I pushing thier MegaDeal sub, I have bought very little from them. Very little. Only reason I buy anything from them is I get a perpetual license. I ain't doing no sub, don't want no sub, ain't down with subs at all. They can take that sub and stick it....

  5. The issues you describe definitely sound more like project corruption than bugs. If it's a bug, it will be for the most part repeatable every time. And for us to fix it we need a recipe to follow, because not only do we need to see what happens when a project is in a particular state, we also need to know how it got into that state in the first place - and that "how" is usually the bug. Before I joined the team, I was a beta tester, and I spent far more time trying to reproduce bugs from a fresh project than actually finding the bugs themselves. If the dev team can follow the steps and reproduce the issue, then there's a > 95% chance we'll be able to fix it. It's also much quicker to identify an issue in a project with one track, than debugging a project with 20 or more tracks in it. Project corruption is a different scenario though. Sometimes a project becomes corrupt due to bugs, but this is very rare - the code is littered with checks to ensure this doesn't happen, and also every user would be experiencing the same issue. So that leaves plugins... We all know that some plugins crash with a 0xc0000005 error - this is when a bug in the plugin tries to write to memory it doesn't have access to. However, the plugin is running in the same processor space as Cakewalk, so it has access to all of the memory Cakewalk is using. So what happens when it writes to the wrong part of memory, but this time it's memory it does have access to? Well, chances are that memory is your project, and it'll end up either corrupting the project or the state of other plugins. If you can, try to reproduce the issue in a fresh project with steps that are repeatable every time - then send that recipe to us.

  8. I wonder how many anti-sub users have a Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV+, Paramount+, Hulu etc account? 😉

  9. I totally agree! But I still wonder how many companies try to go the sub-way 😆! Recently I had 3 surveys and all were more or less about "subscription"! This is crazy, if I look at the reactions here on this forum! There are not many who are sub-enthusiasts!

  10. I took the survey. I got nothin'...and they'll probably give me the same stupid response: You already own it.

  11. I can't imagine those 3rd party resellers are spreading disinformation. There must have been communication between Waves and Resellers. It all began (over a month ago) when Waves sended out a very vaque newsletter to their subscribers about ''Changing our License System''. Whatever that means.... Waves had plenty of time to make it clear... But they chose to remain completely silent about it. There is nothing to find about this on their Website, Terms and Conditions, or in their FAQ. At some point it is even questionable, whether it is legal to ''disable'' licenses that are bought. Why should i buy/use any of their products again if they are silent about such important matters to their customers? I don't do subscriptions. Period. Enough alternatives.

  13. I actually like rent-to-own models. Only thing with that model, is that you’re paying full price most of the time. Companies don’t usually give you the sale price on top of a rent-to-own product. With that said, I much prefer RTO over subscription. At least you get to keep a product that allows us to open our previous sessions. Software/App subscriptions are at the very bottom of the totem pole… yes, below WUP.

  14. ^^ Mark pretty much nailed what I was trying to get at. I definitely wasn't suggesting user error got a project into this kind of mess, or that anything you're seeing wasn't real or serious or anything, but *something* is going on to cause this corruption. If we can work out how it got into this state, there's a better chance someone will be able to fix it.

  15. People here are anti music production software subscriptions which is very different. I have an Office 365 sub because it gives me OneDrive, plus I can install it on 5 devices and share it with up to 5 other people. I pay about £35-40 per year and share it with 3 other people and use 3TB of OneDrive. If Waves do a £40 a year deal which can be shared amongst six people, with five activations each, I think some people would put the pitchforks down!

  16. Valid argument if Waves were my only resource. In my case, I'm not interested in a subscription because I have plenty of other perpetual plugins to replace them with. However, I like having those options in my toolbox. If not, I'll move on.

  18. That's exactly how I feel. I have some Waves plugs that I really like, and the only thing that I honestly really dislike about Waves is the one seat activation per license. The "industry standard" is usually for at least two. Since I now store my Waves licenses on a USB stick, they are portable - not as convenient, but not an issue for me. WUP has always been a la carte, or bundle, and always optional.

  23. Frankly, my instinct is that if Waves moves exclusively to a subscription model, they'll eventually find it doesn't generate the desired revenue and move back to perpetual licenses (and continue to offer subscriptions as an option). I completely get why software companies love the idea of the subscription model, it's steady revenue. But not all consumer audiences share that affection for subscriptions. If Waves is going subscription only -- and it's still an IF at this point -- I don't think it will last two years before they return to perpetual licenses. In any event, there's been multiple threads about this and pages of speculation, so Waves has gotten a lot of attention for this. I am very interested in how it resolves. I own easily 30+ Waves plugins and the only ones I really would hate to leave behind are the Abbey Road series.

  27. Photoshop/Lightroom was $10. There are probably more people in your neighborhood who use that than a DAW. Stuffed shirts thought "hey let's try that". I could see if Waves did a $29 a month sub to access everything some would go for it. Who knows maybe the rent to own is the nest frontier. BTW that's done with our credit cards anyway. Splice offered rent to own.

  28. When there is working competition, perpetual licensing is still available. Adobe Acrobat Pro, Microsoft Office are first examples that come to my mind. And IMHO audio software business has too much competitive businesses in the game and not that many customers on the other side, which creates hostile environment for sub models. But it looks like some developers are testing the water just to find that their dreams of subscription heaven are unrealistic.

  30. I'm OK with a company offering subscriptions, as long as they are optional, and an alternative to reasonably priced perpetual licenses. What Adobe did is unforgivable. They did away with perpetual licenses for all of their pro graphics software. Stop subscribing and you lose the ability to edit any of your works previously saved in the Adobe file formats. Apparently Adobe has a firm grip on the pro graphics industry. SMH.

  33. Yes! This sub stuff is crazy. I was getting some meal supplements for my pet, and they wouldn't let me order anything unless I went with a sub. They stated the reason was short supplies so only subscribers would get it. (Side note, they are back to selling like they use too.) This is just a bunch of BS! Good grief!!

  34. If you go to Waves.com main page. Zero info about "any" of this. No links, no FAQ... nada. Only way to have gotten any notice or information is from forums like this or an email from Waves/3rd party vendors. What kind of company does this??? You would think the information that was in their newsletter could at least be found somewhere on their website, but NOPE! Lastly, I really don't like the timeframe that Waves gave us. Out of nowhere came a March 26th deadline. And we're literally all left wondering, "what tf is going on?!" You'd at least think we'd have a year's notice (at least that what would seem like the right thing to do). I'm eagerly waiting to see what all the hubbub is about after March 26th. I sincerely hope it's good news for customers.

  35. Look around the forum, if it was this bad for most people here, this place would be on fire. I know I wouldn't be here, I rely on this software to just work, and if it was anything close to the stuff you're experiencing, I'd be gone. I'm a working professional, I need the tools to be reliable. Not saying there isn't bugs - all software has bugs, and I've reported my fair share of Cakewalk bugs over the years too - but I'd actually call Cakewalk some of the least buggy software I've used, especially lately. Clearly something is not right on your end somewhere. I've never seen anything like what you're saying though, so there's no precedent of advice I can give you. Are you able to grab a screen recording of what's going on so we can see this in action? It might provide some clues as to whatever you're doing that might be causing this weirdness. (Not pointing fingers here, just working methodically to narrow down possible causes so we're not just taking blind shots in the dark)

  39. That's not exclusive to Cakewalk or TTS-1. Imported/opened MIDI files can contain MIDI events other than note on and note off, such as MIDI CC controllers or patch changes. So playing the MIDI file back unedited will likely override changes that you have temporarily made to the instrument, as the instrument responds to the time-stamped events in the file. Suggest reading up on how to use the MIDI "Event List" view in Cakewalk, as you will need some type of MIDI editor to alter the MIDI file if you want to make any changes. Event List view: https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Views.27.html Event List buttons and overview: https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=EditingMIDI.46.html Editing events and event parameters: https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=EditingMIDI.49.html#1085602 Edit: to simply change the instrument you should use the suggestion in the response to your other post on this topic. Use the MIDI track inspector. http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Inspectors.3.html#1220713
