  5. Thanks for posting. I'm really excited by this new Granular module. The Granular Synth I used before had a developer that went MIA, so this is a welcome treat to have in MSF. I just released a new video on it yesterday, where I show how to import your own audio and create a pad.

  14. Thanks! I saw that feature. I was actually referring to a total UI makeover, similar to what Cakewalk did with the "Skylight" interface in Sonar X1. It's a deep program that has had continuous development and feature additions for years, and it works great. But I would still welcome some more intuitive workflow enhancements and a re-think on the many menus and dialogues. If I stay away from the program for a while, it takes a while to get up to speed again, like learning another DAW!

  15. Took me a while, but I am beginning to find ways to integrate their stuff into my projects. It's almost always in full-on orchetral arrangements when I need instrument lines that are particularily nimble, or for passages that are fundamentally unsuited to being performed realistically by programmed multisamples. Sonokinetic's phrase libraries are really good at filling in those gaps, and I find them pretty easy to blend with other libraries. When they work, they really work, in that role. Worth having, at least for me. The deal today is for their Orchestral Strings multisample library, which I also have. It's pretty good, with lots of articulations and a nice sound, although I find that it's not really for quick or easy arrangements; in my view, it's a finishing library better suited for arrangements that are already worked out in a fair amount of detail. Also, I totally dislike their instrument interfaces, and the Orchestral Strings one is no different. Very stylish. But also annoying, and they require a bit more work to operate than I want to spend when I'm working on music. However, if you can deal with that then $99 is a really good deal for a full-featured and good-sounding set of orchestral strings.

  17. Not a deal: Just had one of my tracks played on the radio tonight for the first time, so buzzing a little 🙂 Edit: Adding links (still semi reluctantly!) to the track on the various platforms after a few people requested to hear it 😊 https://linktr.ee/disorderlyconductor

  24. Little Lies - getting that fat layered vocal harmony has been my holy grail for years. That production is 90% Christine. The secret: start with having three great singers and nine tracks set aside for overdubs. And four more for keyboard/synth layers.

  25. It's fun to use, and I actually find it most useful as an idea generator. Vivace's actual phrases don't often end up in any of my projects, but auditioning them usually provides food for thought and suggests arrangement ideas.
    2 points
  26. Vivace Legacy is an older library they don't actually even sell anymore. It's full orchestral phrases, textures and transitions, all very old-school soundtrack type stuff. It's pretty good, for what it is, but not hugely flexible in terms of its overall vibe and usefulness. Basically, if you're doing 70/80's full orchestral sci-fi scoring or something, then it's got a lot of useful bits and pieces. You can switch sections on and off, use different mic mixes, etc.

  27. RapidComposer now for only $119, Melodya and MIDI Mutator for $29, Syne for $53! RapidComposer full edition orders receive a free Melodya and MIDI Mutator license. If you have a lot of MIDI files and are on Windows, don't sleep on their Fyler media manager. It will actually audition MIDI files. I think it's only $23. http://musicdevelopments.com

  29. The original poster is on this forum too. I love it when Cakewalk is attacked for how many bugs but take a look at Reaper too and count how many bugs over the past four years have been addressed. The best part of CbB has been the stability of the software now. I always loved using Sonar but I constantly would save, save, save. I feel the same way about CorelDraw software. I showed my wife some simple things to do with it for this holiday season but told her that the save icon or control-S is your friend

  32. One thing that blew me away when I first bought BiaB Ultra was Options | Preferences. Holy smokes. What's a newbie to make of all of that? I just hoped the defaults would work for me and never went back to it. Even the MIDI and audio setup was bewildering. REAPER suffers from the same DOS-based history, a great program with overwhelming menus, and a UI I could never get to look and work in a way I was happy with. When SPlat went splat, I went back to Studio One Pro. I actually started with Studio One, but moved to SONAR because of this forum. The PreSonus forum was, is and will likely continue to be of little or no use or interest. Like every other DAW/music production software out there, Studio One isn't perfect, but I get on with it really well, so that's where I've stayed. And that's what I compare BiaB against, UI-wise. Two completely different universes. Where are the Guardians of the UI Galaxy when you need them? 🤣

  36. Thanks; good advice. I actually saw a music book bundle probably less than year ago. It was one that had far more sociology and other academic-oriented books than this one. Not sure if that's the one you got. Given my academic background, that bundle might have been better for me than this one. I did actually check the sample pdfs in this one and the other one. In both collections I looked at, the quality of the content varied. Addendum: The Foley Grail, Website. Info about the book; not the text from the book; includes supplementary materials (several clips from videos not included in the bundled book version). From the pdf in the bundle: "Accompanying the book are online resources featuring video demonstrations of Foley artists at work, video tutorials of specific Foley techniques, lectures from the author, and more." You can see some of those at the Website. No need to answer questions about what words are on any of the pages from the book! 🙂

  44. How that never happened to you in Sonar is a mystery to me. Cutting and pasting audio has always caused this if you're not cutting at a zero crossing as @Lord Timsuggested. His solution is one. Here's another solution that I prefer. I do ton of cutting and pasting audio while I'm noodling with ideas in the very beginning of a song, so I hear this "clicking" fairly often. I set up a custom button in the tool bar (I called it Fade All) which triggers the Fade Selected Clips function. I have it set up to linear fade 1ms on the front and 1ms on the back of each clip. I can just lasso all the clips and click "Fade All". Literally, I can lasso every audio clip in the project and click this button. Takes a split second, and every clip on the clips pane is faded front and back in a way that you'll never hear it. But it definitely fixes the cuts that are made at a non-zero point. If you set up the Fade Selected Clips function to "Only Show if pressing SHIFT", it just does it with a single button click. No need to click ok.
