  3. No. I really enjoyed doing the list the first three years, but the fourth year was torture. There were infinitely more sales. I was getting up each day at 5 am and working full time. All day long people were complaining that I missed something . So that was the last time. But I think that musicsoftwaredeals.com will fill in very well this year. Larry, however, is irreplaceable. If he doesn't come back, the entire world is screwed.

  8. Have you listened to the latest pop hits recently???

  9. Agreed. However, there are certain songs that I never felt like I knew the correct way to play them. I faked it pretty dang good. I have already used this to work on a couple of songs that seem so simple... but they are not. Much move involved than you would think. This keeps me in practice and invigorates me to play more. Which I hadn't done in the last few years.

  11. Sometimes updates change the Class ID of the plugin. It's supposed to migrate but manufacturers don't always get it right, unfortunately. The easiest solution is to put in the new version of the plugin, I'd say, and thankfully L2 is fairly basic as far as what you usually adjust on it.

  12. In the perfect (or at least logical...) world, what they document should be "correct": https://steinbergmedia.github.io/vst3_dev_portal/pages/FAQ/Compatibility+with+VST+2.x+or+VST+1.html For programmers: note there is NO character filtering in the name converter, the name is used verbatim. But Steinberg's world is not perfect nor logical. Steinberg at some places implement things not according to there own documentation (so I will not be surprised if they use different function in Cubase). And since the documentation does not describe many details (f.e. in which encoding plug-in name should be...), developers just guess what they should do. I wish all developers abandon VST3, I know that is not going to happened any time soon. But there is already one "major" DAW which support LV2 on Windows 😏

  14. Love it! And that Les Paul has me drooling... Right tuners, right knobs - it's got it all! Mine WAS just a DSL. It's one of the many things that I had to let go of in 2019-2020. That being said, I can't say that I ever really used it all that much. But there was something comforting about that big Mashall box in the corner of the room - and I knew if was there when I needed it. But I recorded DI most of the time. The one thing I sincerely regret having to let go is my inexpensive Gibson SGJ. Best practice guitar I've ever owned and unlike other SG's, it felt solid. Since the ex moved out, I've had to do a LOT of decorating. It's a big house for one man and his cat, so I had to spread stuff around a bit. And it's also quite expensive so the budget for decorating is extremely tight. But last week I finally managed to get around to installing that upholstered panel that's been in the garage for a year. As you see, gear is sparse. The outboard compressors, the mackie board, the Pro Tools control surface and a lot of that stuff is gone. But if I'm to be honest, the equipment I actually use is still all there. And the room still has that vibe, I just love it. Since it doubles as my office, I spend almost 60 hours a week in here and even after 9 years, I just never get tired of it. I hang out here on my nights off quite often, actually. I really need a new black rug though - this grey one is an eyesore.

  16. The site being down all makes sense and these plugins are free so him using free hosting is understandable too. The installers one is a little unusual, as it's not so common to see the detections. I'd provide both if I was him. I never mind and often prefer to just copy/paste the VST3 directly onto the VST3 folder as I know exactly what I'm adding to my system. It really doesn't need to be much easier as it's often only a few seconds to do it unless there's a lot of changes the installer makes, like registry keys, or .in files, or unusual things. Thanks for sharing his reply 🙂

  17. I learned more about Cakewalk than I had over the last 2 decades when I started making the tutorials. I needed to explore all the options and make sure I wasn’t missing anything obvious. Then as I picked topics I dug in to ( that’s right) the documentation as well as exploring every little button and menu item. Things I never would have touched I tried just to see what happens. Boy did I quickly make a quantum leap in understanding exactly how Cakewalk is glued together. Things I thought were useless features I now include in my daily workflow. So in some ways I really don’t care if anyone ever watches them, makes no difference to me, because if anything was worth while it was making the videos was a very good learning experience just for me. I do hope I’ve helped a few others along the way. I certainly get thankful comments daily from Google. And it does mean a lot to me even the small bit of support I get from the forum. Big thanks to those of you who take the time to post the links etc.

  18. I think the starter screen in CbB should have some of Cactus Music aka John's tutorial videos Highly recommended. Also google "Creative Sauce Cakewalk" for another great resource on CbB!

  20. Today's project. Reinstall OS and apps on my 'everyday' computer. Apparently my SSD drive was going bad. Just about 2 years old Installed 9/20/2020). Only had 9980GB Total Host write. SSDs are supposed to last at least 700TB Host Writes.

  22. If you prefer not to clean up the project, the export audio dialog has options for start and end export times. Set the export parameters for the project one time and save it as a task

  23. Remember there is always the possibility that one had to shelve their musical projects for a while, and tend to life's other responsibilities. But technology does keep moving on regardless... That's one reason why Craig Anderton (and others) say bouncing mixed tracks down is always a good practice. Better shelf life that way without dependence on specific plug-ins, or DAWs.

  26. Bonus tip: If you want to just delete everything from the end of your project, including any left over bits that are making your project to continue to play past the end, do this: 1. Put your cursor at the place where you want your project to end 2. Do CTRL+A to select everything 3. Enable Ripple All (just above the ruler): : 4. Click the Set From = Now button in the Select Module on the Control Bar: 5. Press Delete. Everything from where your cursor is to the last event on your timeline will be deleted, making this now the new end. 6. DISABLE RIPPLE ALL! Seriously, double check you did this before you tangle yourself up in a big mess. I've done this. It sucks.

  28. Yes, Kuassa breaks out the individual units within each Effektor in A360 and displays them with their own UI. I was a bit confused by that initially. You can still switch between them in A360 to try the different flavors though. I kind of like this approach. The different UIs give you a quick visual on what's in your chain and it feels like you get more out of each plugin. I really like how Kuassa's A360 works. IMHO it is very well-designed and intuitive. Plus, you can use your favorite Kuassa pedals outside of A360 which makes them that much more useful.

  32. Hey, Simeon, do you have other discounts for other companies I should know about?
    1 point
  33. Yes, for 'Replace If Possible on Project Load' you need support from the plug-in developer. But to clean up the list of plugins by eliminating VST2 when a VST3 is present ('Hide Related VST2 Plug-Ins' option) it might be possible to enhance it.

  34. I don't need to learn new songs for a band I'm not in, but it occurred to me that deCoda might be handy for ripping chord progressions from popular songs, to use in original works. Can't copyright a chord progression, as far as I'm aware... As long as the melody, bass line, and rhythm differ you should be OK.

  37. That's entirely possible about the dependency check. Great idea emailing and it will be good to hear back 🙂 Maybe they could look at other packaging applications too, given they know their products are getting flagged as malicious. It's one of those cases where I'm sure it's probably completely fine, but given the amount of plugins most of us have, is it worth taking any risks on something that does have warnings.

  38. As for Adaptiverb, I don’t see that one as (only) a special effect but as a (re)synthesizer in its own right. It’s an instrument for me. And a very creative one at that

  39. Speaking of drum kits. Funny story. The first year I toured with Johnny Cash's brother Tommy Cash (I toured 7 years in his Florida band) Jimmy Peppers came out of retirement to play drums. Peppers was the road band drummer for Ferlin Huskey in mid 60's (and went on to be band manager for George Jones and a somewhat successful Nashville songwriter and producer). Peppers didn't have a drum set and was loaned a Sonar set. Peppers started with a full set and started send parts back to the owner, said he didn't need them, and wound up with bass drum, snare and hi-hat, nothing else. The Sonar set got full use as the owner, who was also an ex Nashville drummer, toured with us the next 6 years.

  40. Ok , disclosure, I use to score to picture in Sonar non stop for like 25 years. When Sonar tanked I jumped on the Cubase band wagon and I do like my Cubase a lot. I still like to compose in CbB just because of familiarity, but I dreaded when the video editor started sending me edited versions and I had to cut my old, approved music cues to the new picture. It could very easily turn into a nightmare if you where not on top of your game. BUT NOW, with the ripple edit and new(ish) Tempo Track...not a problem. My first revised cut went smoothly. No need to jump to the other DAW . just want to say THANKS to the Bakers! (again). Even my coffee this morning tastes better. And i do think it's due to the improvements n CbB

  44. I've been using the Copy/Paste Special feature and I am missing the option to transfer - MIDI Bank/Program - MIDI CC7 (Volume) - MIDI CC10 (Pan) in a way, that it should apply the values on the GUI too. An Import MIDI Special feature would also be nice that would offer to import the checked options.

  45. At one time I started a similar project. I had just acquired the Oberheim 8-Voice from Cherry Audio and thought "wouldn't it be cool to do a 70's-style epic synth opus"? No samplers, no acoustic instruments, no vox, just lots of layers of subtractive synths. Well, that project sits unfinished along with a couple hundred other half-baked ideas. Lately, I've been thinking about taking a bunch of those unfinished ideas and stringing them together. Last year I gave the project another shot. I let go of my strict no-samples requirement and allowed myself to use Superior Drummer for drums. The rest is all true to the original concept, consisting entirely of subtractive synths. This is where I left off on that one... https://soundclick.com/r/s86sea No current projects, sadly, as my DAW is being rebuilt after it fried on a hot day.
