I'm in the US and buy a ton of stuff from European online stores, like Plugin Boutique, etc. I like to use PayPal instead of giving them my credit card number. However, when I get the USD charge from PayPal, it's always been slightly higher than what I expected. Recently, I discovered that I could still use PayPal but have my bank convert to USD instead of PayPal. This saves me about 2%+. Not a whole lot but at the rate I buy stuff, it adds up! LOL All you have to do is click the "See currency options" link on the initial PayPal checkout window. Select the foreign currency box and then the blue Pay button. I've walked through the process on a blog post with screenshots. I gotta imagine there are others that might benefit from this tip. https://www.seriouslytrivial.com/2021/09/07/dont-let-paypal-translate-your-foreign-purchases/9 points

You should be able to tell if an item is transferable by going to your IK Multimedia My Products page and clicking on the Serial/License button (if one exists) for the item. A popup will be displayed and if the item is transferable there will be a red Transfer button available to initiate the transfer. You do not have to buy a transfer license ahead of time to see the button.5 points

In case anyone's interested in some numbers to play with as we while away IK Group Buy Phase 2: Electric Amplitubaloo: We've just completed 20% of September -- 6 days, 144 hours or 12 12-hour periods. Here's how the last of those looks in terms of trends: As noted in the table, the August signup rate was around 17/hour overall, though there were two distinct periods -- the first 20 days or so, where the rate was around 14.5 per hour, and the "Race to 10k" at the end, where the rate averaged around 26.5 per hour. The bad news is that the September rate (Ovr Rate above) isn't in the same neighborhood, currently at around 11 signups/hour. That's boosted by two flurries of 20+ signups an hour over 12-hour periods, each coinciding with a mini-race to the next milestone level. Without those, the rate is closer to 8.5/hour in September. If you're the predicting kind, you could go a lot of ways from here: If the rate stays as it is, with similar ups and downs throughout the month, the pace is good for 18k. If the rate jumps back up to ~14/hour as in early August, the total should hit 20k. If the "bumps" should peter out or the pace slow further, ~8.5/hour the rest of the way would net just over 17k. If the bottom falls out and the worst 12-hour numbers (7/hr) become the norm, the counter would coast to 16k. If there's another feeding frenzy at the end of the month, you could perhaps add a thousand or two to your favorite number above. That seems to be the ballpark, based on September-so-far. Future mileage may obviously vary.4 points

It's also worth checking out UJAM Virtual Guitarist Silk. It's similar in a lot of ways. I like the different voicings setting in NI Picked Nylon (especially the "As Played" option), but then again the bass note feature on VG Silk is very useful and intuitive.3 points

It's all good. I didn't appreciate how you handled it at first but I understand that I was gone for 4 months and never said a word. Trust me, I returned everyday to check back incase anyone had a fix but no one ever did and I never got the chance to say anything because I was so busy. I do think that the issue is that they weren't uncompressed or unzipped or extracted or whatever it's called because the "audio" samples seem to working fine in terms of drag and drop. The sound is indeed coming through from these files which is a good sign. So I think that the whole problem is that maybe, POSSIBLY, I should just extract the files. And as for the sampler a.k.a. Komplete Kontrol. I wound up downloading it and now I have a new plugin / interface thing that I can mess around with. I found out that Komplete Kontrol has a Synthwave pack that I must try out because I need this for my new song I'm making. Anywho, the problem seems solved and I ended up with a crap ton of files to extract, and a new plugin. So now I have tons of sorting to do but I thank you for helping me out and the same goes for everyone else. If something goes wrong, I'll come back here and this time I won't leave you hanging.2 points

I voted for Cakewalk in Favorite Audio Software and Favorite DAW, because as we know from the tinfoil hat brigade, Cakewalk isn't REALLY freeware, because you have to register an account at Bandlab and connect to the Internet every 6 months blah blah blah. ? But yeah, excluding free software from the DAW categories, and "ghettoizing" other categories by having separate (but equal) ones for freeware is lame. I just ignored the guidelines. If they get lots of votes for freeware in other categories, even if they don't report them, it at least sends a message. Which may be that users of freeware don't bother to read the rules. ?2 points

Always preferred BFD for sound quality, BUT they've tried to implement some sort of mandatory online authorization with the relaunch via InMusic. IME it's been a complete mess, with random driveby deauthorizations of *everything* I've owned for years. Can't recommend it until they've sorted this out with a user/customer focused update. FYI, a couple of the original FXpansion crew are full time on damage control, but this has been going on since April, and it's InMusic, which does not have a track record of investing in product improvement. Great sounds/feature set for "realistic" drums, and yes, the user interface could benefit just as greatly from a major overhaul. Would love to see it happen.2 points

While violin and fiddle are the same basic instrument, there are many variables. Folk fiddler's sometimes use a different bridge with a flatter arc to play double stops and often use steel strings while some old school classical players might use gut strings. Both also use synthetic strings. Different string arrangements are sometimes used in folk fiddle. Folk fiddlers tend to spend less on their instruments. While this isn't a given it's pretty common for a weekend player to play an intermediate instrument. Rolling around in bars and under pavilions at picnics in the rain isn't where you want to take a nice instrument or bow. These instruments often use lesser quality construction and lower quality woods. This can sometimes result in a less refined or tuned sound. Less projection and uneven playing across all strings. Low end beginner instruments from 200.00 to maybe 600.00. Intermediate instruments from 600 to as high as 5000.00. Classical players are demanded to have only the better instruments for their technique which often involves higher positions on the neck. 2nd, 3rd,4th and 5th positions. Folk fiddlers mostly play in 1st position and sometimes go to higher occasionally. Classical players often live on those higher positions. I practice at 2nd and 3rd positions. For anyone mocking up music for a fiddler this is something to keep in mind. To be accurate I would keep fiddle tunes on 1st and 2nd position. No higher. Classical players buy violins beginning in the 10,000 dollar range for an instrument with large full time orchestra players 20-30,000 dollars for a violin is not uncommon. Getting above those prices the buyer is often paying for collector value as opposed to player value or both. I have 5 violins. I only have one decent violin that cast me 3000 dollars. I have a couple that are in the 1500.00 range too. The 3K violin also has a 400.00 bow. Advantages of the better violins are more responsiveness, better sound, made of better materials, they stay in tune better, they often project a little better with less effort. You can tell a BIG difference between most low end violins and the better ones. So to answer that question in a nutshell aside from all of the variables I mentioned. Classically trained violinists generally play on much better instruments than the average folk fiddler. You can tell the difference in the sound. Classical players who also play gigs usually have a 2nd instrument for those gigs, probably something closer to mine. Here's a video of Kevin Burke playing in the Sligo tradition.2 points

Tried again just now (after it failing last time). I didn't clear any cache since last time, or do anything differently. I had to log back in, added to cart, and it took me to the promised land of checkout. If I dig it, I'll likely cop the "Bite Harder" version.2 points

Thanks, got it for NoN only after signing up to newsletter you should then see the price "NoN" on the website The discount in the cart was €1000, LOL... such a deal ? we're lucky! ?2 points

I suspect it's just that their commerce server is overloaded due to the initial rush. I got the blank screen when I tried to go to my cart for checkout. If prior purchase or some other condition had not been met, I should think I would get an error message. I mean, a €1210.00 processor for free?? Imagine the fortunes we shall all make once the giveaway is finished and we flip our licenses on KVR.2 points

I'd caution against generalizing based on your observations. All you've determined is that your computer can handle the miniscule overhead of upsampling a specific compressor, in your specific project with your specific plugins. This is far more about the plugin's efficiency than that of Cakewalk, since nearly all the extra processing that upsampling incurs happens within the plugin. It'll be running exactly the same instructions under Cakewalk as it would under Reaper or Studio One. Yes, being able to upsample individual plugins is indeed a great feature worthy of bragging about in the marketplace, but I doubt any knowledgeable DAW user is going to jump ship based on that feature alone. This discussion is meaningless without talking about aliasing. Aliasing is not only relevant, in the context of compression it's literally the only reason oversampling is ever prescribed. If you have no audible aliasing, you don't need oversampling to begin with. If you don't need 2x you likewise don't need 4x or 6x.2 points

Yes a matrix cell has a full copy of the underlying data stream. While the base data type is similar, clips in tracks are more complex than data in matrix cel’s, hence its not trivial to share data directly across tracks. Editing operations are different etc.2 points

Ok...I finally got it to work. I had to log out. Place it in my cart, and go through checkout, then, log in again at checkout, and when I got to Paypal, cancel the order for 1000 Euros, and return to Denise Audio. This CLEARED my cart, and the next time I added it to my cart, there was the NoN Option for $0, which processed properly....1 point

From the article, looks like they're going to focus on the learner market: keyboards that light up to help people learn to play - along with a software subscription (kinda like Melodics, but keys only I guess). It does hint that they might return to the pro-market one day. Not sure if they'll offer support for existing units at the moment though.1 point

https://www.antarestech.com/auto-key-mobile/ curently only available for IOS (android coming soon) but it’s free to use to detect key. If you own Antares auto-tune plugins it can sync with your desktop/laptop and send the key information to your plug-in which is pretty cool.1 point

I also occasionally get this with my MOTU (ASIO/fixed 44.1KHz rate). I just need to turn it off and on again and it's fine. There are no cable issues, but sometimes it just doesn't seem to sync up right (I'm thinking like John's sample rate issue, but inside the driver/firmware/hardware) and it needs a power cycle. An older driver might work better, but it happens so infrequently, I don't worry about it.1 point

Can't help but wonder if they would have done better if they priced their keyboards a little lower. I always had a slight interest in them, but they were far too expensive for me to justify.1 point

Byron I think this shows that YouTube has reached an almost total monopoly position and thinks it can do what it wants - which unfortunately it seems it can!! We have discussed this a bit in the Coffee House, but it is good to see the video. HOW can they ban this for anything - its just Historical footage - are we to ban history now if it is a bit disturbing? This brings to mind what George Santayana said:- Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it If i were you I would challenge this ban and see what they have to say for themselves Nigel1 point

Reminded me of a line by Rich Hall... If you can play guitar and harmonica at the same time like Bob Dylan or Neil Young, you're a genius. Add a pair of cymbals between your knees and people will cross the street to avoid you.1 point

Actually a native sampler is really needed in cakewalk. For the past few months I tried out different samplers like Grace, Komplete Start, ADSR Sampler and a few more external samplers. They work really fine. But the real issue happens when you transfer the project to another computer (Like I do) where your samples are located in a different directory. These External samplers don't work then. They just simply show that the audio file is not available. And it's really hard to just go and search for them again. (Waste of Time Basically) A stock sampler will definitely take care of this problem as it will pack the audio with itself in the project folder.1 point
-
We all would like to see a sampler in Cakewalk... They know we need a sampler in Cakewalk but it just hasn't happened yet ... They have a new sampler in the Bandlab app but not Cakewalk...? It's very interesting that for year people have been asking and it seems to get looked over. I know there are other things that are priority but they should stop ignoring the intergated sampler in Cakewalk. Just my 2 cents. +11 point
