This thread left me in stitches! 😆 The library seams interesting. Looks like it has some interesting patches. Darn it, I don't think I'd ever use it but 🤷♂️ it's hard for a GASaholic to mend his ways...5 points

This is a subject that comes up a lot at workshops and seminars. Cakewalk offers five different types of dithering when you export - Rectangular, Triangular, and 3 different Pow-r types. Often, there's confusion about which type to use for different types of material, or whether even to use it at all. So, I investigated dithering pretty deeply, and wrote an article that includes audio examples of a file exported as 16 bit undithered, 24 bit undithered, and with the three Pow-r dithering types, as well as Triangular dithering (which you'll never use after you hear the Pow-r versions). To make the dithering audible, the audio examples are normalized to a level where you can hear the results of dithering very clearly. I hope this clears up some of the mystery around using dithering in Cakewalk!3 points

As someone who spends a lot of time in the PRV, I feel that the note name display glossing over a crucial bit of data here. See the highlighted line, which is a C# (or Db as the PRV insists, but that's another matter). In the first image there's almost certainly enough space to stick a lower-case 'b' after the D. In the second image, there's enough space to stick a '...' (and definitely room to stick the lower case 'b'). Not until the third image is it willing to mention the most important aspect of the note, that it's a Db and not a D. Not telling me that until there's room to also tell me what octave it's in isn't entirely helpful. I don't care what octave it is; I can already tell that from context. Ideally, I'd like to see whatever the PRV prints in the note blobs clipped to the printable area within the blob. If that means the flat or the octave number is partially truncated, that's fine. Better that than it tell me something that's flat-out incorrect: the note is not a D! Or, if clipping the text is a performance thing (seems unlikely), I'd settle for it displaying as many characters as it can fit within the blob (e.g. at least display 'Db' in image #2, rather than waiting until there's room to display the full 'Db5' within the blob. Not telling me that it's a Db, instead indicating that the string has been truncated via the '...' is of debatable utility.2 points

Yea wish i had some words of encouragement. For what it's worth, i've never heard of anyone (actually ever) disabling their cd/dvd player to improve latency. Is your audio interface bus powered ? or plug in (AC) ? I actually like what Reaper has to offer (especially in its way to manipulate audio speed). But i find Cakewalk with more features and easier to use. for what i do anyway (typical project is 30 audio tracks/5 midi tracks/50+ plug ins/Region FX). I've had good results in both DAW's (Cakewalk+Reaper). I switched to Reaper for a while when Cakewalk went down. But came back as soon as Cakewalk did. I have an Intel I7 AsRock mobo, 16 GB of ram. Nothing crazy. And a 1st gen Focusrite Scarlett (actually I've never even updated the drivers before LOL).2 points

I found a 5.1.1 update that still has the b&w look, but does give an "add colours" option in the settings, so I guess I wasn't the only one that wasn't happy with the dreary look. With that option selected it looks like this.. .....which is better, but still too much grey for my liking.2 points

Reaper ftw. Glad to see CbB because even when free still has relevance to some. Very fair list and I understand why some chosen above Reaper. I liked to see Pro Tools fading into oblivion, as I was gonna compare it to Adobe's rent to NEVER to own scam, I mean, ahem, scheme, but Adobe has at least good quality (as in nothing beats Photoshop).2 points

I used Cakewalk/Sonar for over 20 years. I was devastated when it went under. Then I found Reaper. I've never been happier with a DAW. You can create an environment that works just for you. SO DEEP! I'm happy that Bandlab continues to developed it, but Reaper is my world!2 points

Cakewalk has had a lot of innovative ideas over the years. Aux tracks and patch points are no exception. These powerful tools can be used for a lot of creativity. However the question that keeps coming up is, "What is the difference between an Aux track, a Bus, and a Patch Point in Cakewalk. Well, in this video I hope to explain just that and show some practical applications of how to use them in Cakewalk by BandLab!1 point

I won a free copy of Breaktweaker from Sonicstate years ago. It's neat, and gives you a way to do all those Skrillexy slowdown/stutter effects and whatnot. Can't say I've ever used it for anything — not my scene. If you've ever wanted to do something like that, it's certainly a bargain at $18. I've also got Vocalsynth (1). I've at least used it once or twice for some vocoder-ish effects. Not an everyday effect by any stretch, but somewhat useful. Of the three listed in the deal, Trash 2 is the only one I use on any sort of regular basis. Can be useful to destroy a sound and then just mix in a touch of that signal via an aux or whatever.1 point

Lol looks like I can get this KH library for $19.99. For some reason I have a $40 credit. I'm pretty sure my only business thus far with APD was just to sign up with them and download Octovox and Black 76 for free, other than that I've no idea why I have that. Ain't gonna question it, but it reminds me of this time I was in Guitar Center and this girl was buying a keyboard and she was getting a way better deal than she expected and she kept asking the GC guy who was ringing her up why she was getting such a great deal and finanly he got annoyed and said, "Do you want me to add some to it?"1 point

Hmmmmm. Now you have me thinking of possibilities--triggered pop-up notes as track-embedded reminders?????? Oh--I did see the other day that evidently there is some sort of patch switching capabilities; not sure how I stumbled onto that--maybe the midi settings.1 point

Note that the video is for V 1.5, and they are selling V 2.0. I think it has more features, like microtuning. Also, Aviram Dayan has announced V.5.0. As he's jumping from V2 all the way to V5, I assume this will add a lot of features. On the site, he says that V5 will be available for $50 more. Aviram Dayan confirmed to me that this APD purchase makes you eligible for the upgrade. @pseudopop What makes this "arabic" is the style of play. Western string musicians do not play this way. It's a very different culture. In the same way an orchestral violinist doesn't play the same way as an Appalachian fiddler. It's also good for Klezmer music. There aren't many libraries like this out there, which is why he's been able to sell it for so much $$$. The lowest I have ever seen it sold for is $169. EDIT: The lowest was $90.99 in March 2019. It lists for $259, This is not a loop library it's a playable instrument. I don't remember it being said in the video, but there are the same number of key switches on the left as there are articulation buttons. So you should be able to switch between articulations in real time or during editing. If you use a lot of middle eastern percussion, or other instruments like the Oud or Santur, this can give you more of the sound of middle eastern pop. These are sampled players, but ME pop players often use synths. As you can notice in the video, they have 3 varieties of Korg. In order to get this sound in the past, I've had to make do with loop libraries. There is also a 35% off sale on all Aviram Dayan products on his site right. Get it HERE. If you're looking for something that would work perfectly with this, there is the Eastern Percussion Module from Zero-G. It doesn't have the greatest sounds on a per instrument basis, but it has a ton of ensemble MIDI patterns in all kinds of Middle Eastern music. When you play them all together I think it sounds great, and there's nothing like it, really. I really like it, particularly when I layer in better percussion in front. Zero-G often discounts it a lot. Get it HERE. And of course, there is the NI Discovery Middle East.1 point

I did misunderstand your point to the extent that you want to live play multiple VST's, each serving as a layer in your output simultaneously and find the usual routing in Cakewalk frustrating. I still do not agree that putting all of the layers on a single track is a best practice, although I can see how it would make the mechanics of routing that single track simpler albeit at a sacrifice of some flexibility. The logical solution to your most significant problem would be for Cakewalk to allow a one to many MIDI to instrument track simple routing, or a MIDI send from a single MIDI track. In the SONAR days people were solving this issue with a virtual MIDI cable or virtual MIDI patch bay application that would intercept the keyboard input and distribute it to the different MIDI tracks simultaneously. That may still be the simplest method. http://forum.cakewalk.com/MIDI-to-Multiple-Tracks-One-Working-Solution-m1573767.aspx Lets agree that we probably both know what "layering" means.1 point
