This is an oft-broached topic, people bemoaning that something doesn't work right after an upgrade or how do I roll back to the previous version, yada yada (before figuring out that it was something else that changed on their system that broke it), so I'll share a tip. Typically when CbB is updated, the major changes only occur in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core (assuming you have installed Cakewalk in the default location, if you have not, adjust accordingly) If you want to upgrade to the latest version of CbB yet also retain the ability to run the previous version, all you need to do is make a copy of Cakewalk Core before you let the upgrade do its thing. If you want to get fancy, you can rename the copied folder to reflect exactly which revision of the program it contains. In this way you could have 2 or 3 revisions of CbB sitting there if you wanted to. To set this up: Right click on C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core and select Copy. Right click in the C:\Program Files\Cakewalk folder and select Paste. This will result in there being a new folder with the name "Cakewalk Core - Copy" which you can rename "Cakewalk Core Previous" or whatever. Then let the upgrade run its course. If you want to run the previous version, all you need to do is run the Cakewalk.exe that is inside the "Cakewalk Core Previous" folder, which you can do directly or from a shortcut.2 points

I agree with the others that it sounds as if the client has used a demo version of an audio conversion program to supply different formats for distribution. I gently suggest that this is an issue of client management. Ask them what formats they require for distribution so that you may deliver them in those final formats. Instruct them not to do any conversion themselves, that you will be happy to supply any further formats if required. This will prevent any future such problems. If this is not practical for whatever reasons, I recommend that you supply your files in FLAC format and that the client use MediaHuman Audio Converter to do their conversions. MediaHuman is 100% freeware and does not impose any watermarking. It is easy to use, available on Windows and Mac OSX and handles conversions to and from all popular formats. https://www.mediahuman.com/audio-converter/ I hope this helps!2 points

That was what I originally had posted...then this morning it said $38.95 and I changed it. Now it says $58.95 again...I wish they'd make up their mind?2 points

And with CbB working on stability foremost it keeps getting better and better. Keep up the good work Cakewalk Team!2 points

This was how SONAR worked through X3. IIRC, a change was introduced early in 2015 where the interleave was no longer linked to the track input but I do not recall the rationale for the change.2 points

No worries, I know not all themes are going to be to everyone's liking, just good to get something different out there to add to the choices. Cheers!2 points

I listened on headphones. I liked it inside of the first second turned it on. Cool groove, cool progression, cool as hell! So I imagine you are still playing with eq and such? What's great about this groove is also what could be trouble - it's pretty dense with all the parts. As I listen to the bass guitar, I get (again, on headphones, HD380 pro, they have decent bass response) I'm hearing the wonderful "plucky" bass highs. But also, some really deep and kind of gushy sub-bass. I think you also have some kind of boomwhacker in there? I'd maybe tame that sub-bass region just a bit, it fills and fills the basement. Might be worth moving that hpf up just a tad? It's most noticeable around 1:30, whatever chorus or section you have there. Maybe a bit more variation in the drum fills? OK, again, great song, vocals totally work a treat, I could hear plenty of the lyrics. Wouldn't this be fun to play live? The room would go crazy. cheers, -Tom2 points

Here's another new Theme for you. Not a great deal to say about this one, just the simple explanation that M-Stealth is a Theme with mostly pure black backgrounds, and buttons that blend with the background when not selected (hence the name 'Stealth'), leaving just the button Icon visible, but you can see that in the images. ? Free Download Here... M-Stealth Cakewalk Theme A combined total of around 150 hours, sometimes much more, goes in to creating each Theme I make, then there's more time spent to update them whenever BandLab makes changes or additions to the Cakewalk GUI to ensure any changed or new items display correctly and match the Theme, I also don't make all these Themes for myself, it's more of a hobby and to share the end results with the Cakewalk Community for their use and enjoyment at no charge, Any Tips/Donations via the following link for my time and efforts in creating and updating these are greatly appreciated, however small. Thank You! ❤️ https://www.paypal.me/MatthewJohnWhite1 point

Time has been limited lately so I chose to just post a video of me playing my latest compo. The basic organ part is the basis for the rest of it. This is a classical piece loosely based on the way Bach made music. I am reading a bio on Bach and am fascinated by the way he made music.I'm also a fan of baroque music. I intentionally added an bunch of twists and turns in this to make it more difficult to "pre think" the music.1 point

Started this one two years ago? Rather deep in the weeds at present. Please hear and brutally critique what I long ago became oblivious to. Many thanks!1 point

In addition to my request for Nested Folders can I also ask that we have the ability to Export By Folder In the world of making music for TV & Film Libraries more and more of them are wanting stems. The easiest way to organise stems is by Folder ( not busses ) so the ability to Export them would be a huge time saver1 point

Thanks for the info. If I can't solve the issue myself I'll do that tomorrow. I posted the problem here first as I was hoping to be able to solve it without giving the bakers more work to do.1 point

To answer both points it happens every time in every project I've tried it in, new or old, so I would say that everywhere is fairly descriptive of where it is happening.1 point

Thanks Larry. As you say there is little doubt what is causing the crash I just wondered if the computer gibberish included in the error message gave any clue as to why. It seems that others who have this plug-in are not experiencing this issue, so I just was hoping that somebody could suggest why before going down official channels and causing possibly unnecessary work for someone.1 point

Go to your Cortana area and type OSK to bring up the Onscreen Keyboard. In the lower right you will see a button for ScrLk. Click it. Thanks for asking this, because I noticed that my Dell Latitude also lacks a Scroll Lock key and it made me figure it out for myself!1 point

Are you going to edit the Wikipedia page on SONAR? If so, it would be great if you could do some tidying in there as well. I don't know who thought it would be a appropriate to list every single plug-in effect, great and small, included with each revision, but they were wrong.?It's historical now, but SONAR deserves better than that mess 1. If you are not 100% sure about the dual monitor thing, write what you are sure of or cheat a bit and say that SONAR was "one of the first" or "the first commercially successful DAW" or "the first DAW to successfully" implement dual monitor functionality. That sort of thing may be frowned upon, but it's more important to give credit where it's due than it is to be 100% ironclad IMO. Besides, if someone reads the entry and suffers from knicker entwistment as a result, they are just as free to revise the entry as you are. 2. If you are not 100% sure, again, you can say "most DAW's" or "all in the top 10 list," with an external cite to Music Radar's yearly Top 10 list, which Wikipedia's reviewers love. It's hard to say "all" about things like software features, because there could be some tiny abandoned freeware program somewhere with a cult following of 25 users that never had dual monitor support.1 point

I don't know if this is supposed to be funny, but it's certainly not helpful. The OP indicates in his first sentence that he knows CbB is crashing, and it's because of unfreezing Sektor. @paulo, this is the kind of thing you need to send to support@cakewalk.com. They may want you to send the dump file described in the error message. A little more information here. Best of luck!1 point

A song you wrote at 19 - that's cool - I liked the song and it's catchy. As far as the mix is concerned, I would like to hear more separation for the bass, but it's not that bad as it is.1 point
-
I've listened to this 4 times, and I still can hardly believe that you're singing this. Only because your voice can be so different from song to song. This is a cool song with an even cooler beat. The mix if very good, and it sounds warm and inviting, thus, drawing the listener into the song. You're one of the best!1 point

Maybe instead of vouchers they are starting some new "plugin of the month price" thing? They certainly keep coming up with strange pricing. Just have to be patient, pick your target price and wait for it. BYOME is pretty neat, but to be honest it's not been very useful for making music. This multi-band version seems nice but again not sure how it helps me all that much. A lot of these advanced audio effects fall in that boat for me, could be it's just me though.1 point

Lol you did great on your own. Maybe a collab later on. "Nordic fury" suitable name? ? I have my "studio" in the livingroom with a second child coming in about two weeks, so not much time for daw-ing now. Hi Jesse Couldn't differentiate really for critic, and I don't normally comment on your stuff as I don't 'get it', but this is bloody good, my wife asked wtf was I listening too and as Lynn said, John and Yoko came to mind ...not sure if she believed me ... don't think so ..... Thanks, and for what it's worth the mix is spot on for this stuff. Steve1 point

Nice song you got there Gary. Agree with Steve on the mix. Could use another go at it to bring things out more clearly. All instruments sound good, and like Steve said, the squeeze box sounds good. Like it will be one of the highlights of the song if you can get it to stand out a little more without overpowering the strumming guitar, which has a good tone to it. Maybe add a little more mid-highs to it? IDK, just thinking what I would reach for if I was sitting at the desk!1 point
-
Hi Mate, you have a nice tune here with a great story line so all good there, I feel as if the instruments have been mixed as one track without any sub mix to eq and bring the whole thing out. The guitar playing is good the squeeze box is on the money and the beat fits .... it may be my old ears or the cans, but it sounds a bit muddy, even through the monitors there's a mid range cloudiness. I've seen your gear so I know you can bring this out a bit, and your correct IMO about the vox being too harsh ...that said Iike this a lot but I feel it could do with another mix ... hope that helps but it's only my thinking ...and you did ask for ops on it. All the best Steve1 point

I agree with Base57. You should be able to scale your screen to a preferred resolution/size. There's some additional options in win10 regarding scaling and blurring. I've been using a 2k/25" monitor for some years now, and have started planning a bigger screen due to ageing eyes. 1440 resolution is great for Cakewalk but 25" is too small. I wonder what size a 4k monitor should be for usable image at a native resolution. Is 32" too small? Maybe cheaper to buy better glasses ?1 point

That is a very important type of user, just look at the success of Ableton Live and FL Studio, both of which started as nothing but that and flowered into fuller-featured DAW's. Heck, BandLab's other DAW's, the ones that run in Chrome and on iOS and Android are loop-oriented. And there's the hybrid user, not just "the kids," but people who do backing rhythm tracks of drums and bass with their vocals as audio. MIDI and loop tools need to be strong for them, too. I sometimes compose drum parts using the DAW, then play live to them while recording, using the MIDI track in place of the metronome. I found Admiral BumbleBee's to be a very thorough critique, and one that I couldn't disagree with overall. He may have gotten a detail wrong here or there, and personal opinions are just that. Having worked in the software industry myself for many years, that is one of the basic reasons that bugs persisted in shrinkwrap programs, and in truth, one of the reasons I got out of software development. With the traditional licensing model, there is a built-in disincentive to fix bugs, and it's because no, people don't open their wallets for bug fixes, they open them for new features. Programmers' time costs the company the same amount of money whether it's spent fixing bugs or coding new features. New features=more licenses sold=income. Bug fixes=loss. Businesses exist to generate income. Over a long period of time, a program such as SONAR could lose new licenses by gaining a bad reputation for crashing and having half-assedly implemented features, one I would say after working with the program as it was in April of 2018 not entirely undeserved. But it would also take a long period of time to correct that reputation. A reputation is a difficult thing to change, of course, especially once damaged. How many of us have worked at companies capable of that level of foresight vs. immediate profits? Yeahhh. I'd love to see TPTB reach into the Feature Request bin and pull out a couple. I believe if you don't do that every once in a while, people give up and stop making requests. That's why I was so pleased to see the Ripple Edit Indicator, even though I personally seldom use Ripple Edit. So many people had been begging for it! And they not only got it, but one with multiple modes. Now it seems like the Matrix would be the hot one to put a bit of ingenuity into, since Cakewalk is one of the few programs to offer such a feature. I'd like to learn how to use one of those that is really good.1 point

I misunderstood. I thought you were saying the original (accurate) info had been deleted and was irretrievable. As a "registered Wikipedia editor" maybe some day you'll find a use for this interview that I stumbled on recently. A Computer Music article from the SONAR 1 era, and even then they were feeling inferior about the size of their user base compared to "the big German software program." Note the byline. I thought I'd find a lot of contemporaneous stuff written about Cakewalk/Twelve Tone, but there's not much out there.1 point

I love this piece. I know you’re into Bach but I’m thinking Rick Wakeman, some drums, guitar, spaced out lyrics and we’re off to a cool progression rock song. ‘Sorry, I’m a big Yes fan and this song put me that vibe...great job.?1 point

Same here Grem! Don't get me wrong, I liked many of the toys in Platinum. It would be great if one day we could get some of the non 3rd party ones back, even if it's a paid sort of thing. I don't think it's healthy for the user base to come to expect this all the time when that really just isn't practical. That said, I agree that for a DAW it's mainly workflow and stability that are of main importance.1 point

I agree that AAF should be in Cakewalk. I don't agree that Cakewalk is standing still. Right now Cakewalk is the best it has ever been. It will only get better. I'm going to list all the audio and video programs I use and have actually bought and own. Cakewalk Cubase Pro 10 Sampiltude Pro X4 Studio One 4.5 Fruity Loops Studio 22 Sound Forge Pro 12 Waveform 10 Vegas Pro 13 Davinci Resolve 16 Free Beta It isn't ready for prime time yet. Pinnacle Studio 22 Of the above Cubase and Cakewalk are the most used by me. Samplitude is a disappointment. Studio One is Studio One and is really not geared to my way of working. I don't view a DAW as a commitment to one developer. I use the one I find the most in tune to my way of working. Any one of those will do a good job of recording, mixing and producing music. To me the only thing Cakewalk lacks is AAF support.1 point

Good points, @Jim Roseberry. For me it boils down to "Where there's a will, there's a way," meaning if I (or you) really want to work with someone on a project we will figure out how to do it, regardless of what software each of us may be using. All the other hoo-ha is just noise.1 point

The thing that stuck me most in the article was "By far the most rewarding part of the journey has been the support of a vibrant and growing community of new users and long time supporters, who have made a home in our new discussion forums." I have to say that I am not really noticing the growing "community" of new users. When I step over to the bandlab site I see crazy busy activity, but I have no idea how many of those users know about CbB. When I come to the CbB forum it seems like a fantastic brew pub with a terrible location. Practically Everybody who is there raves about the quality, but there are a lot of empty tables. I am not sure how airing the dirty laundry of the past helps promote the product other than exhibiting the persistence of the platform. I would have liked to see the article extol the virtues more staunchly, instead of the simple bullet list under "What does Cakewalk look Like Now?" Otherwise, it was great to see CbB get a nod outside of the enclave. I have only used one other DAW, and that was Adobe Audition, but they do not support midi platform in any significant way (it is a great wave editor). I love Cakewalk DAW, I dabbled with others, but I'll dance with the girl that brung me Anyway, that's my little squeak, germane or not.1 point

Hi Fogle622 Posted below are the delivery instructions from a music library I write for:- ---------- Your sessions need to be 48/24 and all files delivered need to be at this sample/bit rate. Once the cue is approved we will ask you to upload the full quality files to us in the following format: a. CUE-TITLE__FULL-MIX (master file) b. CUE-TITLE_NO-MELODY (minus mix) c. CUE-TITLE_NO-DRUMS (minus mix) d. CUE-TITLE_NO-ORCH (minus mix) e. CUE-TITLE_NO-GUITARS (minus mix) f. CUE-TITLE_NO-VOCALS / NO-CHOIR g. CUE-TITLE_DRUMS-BASS (yes, we would like one stem with these combined and as follows, separated). h. CUE-TITLE_DRUMS (stem) i. CUE-TITLE_BASS j. CUE-TITLE_GUITARS (should be split into rhythm, lead, acoustic, electric etc) k. CUE-TITLE_SYNTHS (Synths need to be separated into different types. If you have pads it should be labeled SYNTH-PADS, if you have pulsing it should be labeled SYNTH-PULSES, if you have an arpeggiated part SYNTH-ARP etc) l. CUE-TITLE_STRINGS m. CUE-TITLE_BRASS n. CUE-TITLE_CHOIR o. CUE-TITLE_MELODY p. CUE-TITLE_FX q. CUE-TITLE_PIANO The point here is that we would like FULL-MIX, Minus Mixes, and Stems that are labeled with appropriate elements per the style of track you are working in. Very Important comment about STEMS. All files need to be exactly the same length. No exceptions. If your Full Mix is 1.49 then all other files need to be exactly the same length even if the part doesn’t come in until the middle of the cue. Also, please always make sure the file ending does not cut off ring out. ------------- So if you organise by busses , and those busses have processing on them you are assuming that every track routed to it will sit nicely in it's 'home' buss ..if this were true then yes it would be fine..but often times at some point during the mix there are some tracks which end up sounding better routed elsewhere than bussed with similar instruments and their subsequent processing. Take guitars as an example there might be 4 rhythm and 2 lead parts, all going to a buss labelled " Guitars " that has a little compression, some low end filtered out and a a send to a Delay buss. This might sound great on 5 of those guitars...but then there's one lead part that doesn't quite sound right ..what do you do..well you might re-route it straight to the Master Buss and add all your FX at track level therefore bypassing the settings on the rest of the guitars on the Guitar Buss. Now the mix sounds better but the Guitar Buss no longer includes all guitars. Far easier then to route every track to where it sounds best and then group them into folders..now you can solo all the guitars and bounce a stem regardless of where the tracks are routed. And if you could have sub-folders, as you can see from the above list it makes life easier1 point
