moonbooter Posted yesterday at 10:07 AM Posted yesterday at 10:07 AM Hi, I have a problem and hope you can help me: Every time I start playback in Sonar (current version in subscription) and then stop it, Sonar freezes for ~1.5 seconds. Only then does the timer jump back and I can continue working. This is incredibly annoying. I've checked all the settings and can't find any “errors.” Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Thanks and best regards
Bass Guitar Posted yesterday at 03:14 PM Posted yesterday at 03:14 PM When that happens the first thing I do is toggle the global bypass all effects. Another thing that happens is that windows update is running. Try airplane mode. 1
moonbooter Posted yesterday at 04:09 PM Author Posted yesterday at 04:09 PM Thanks. But that's not the reason.
David Baay Posted yesterday at 07:04 PM Posted yesterday at 07:04 PM What's in the project - is it mostly soft synths or mostly audio tracks? Was this project previously working as exepcted, and are all projects affected? What audio interface, driver mode and buffer size? If it's not a plugin, my next guess would be that Sonar is waiting for a response from the audio driver. Does it make a difference if you disable On Stop Rewind... in Track View Options or use Ctrl+Spacebar to override it when stopping? 2

Does this happen with a MIDI only project or only when the project contains audio (test if necessary)? Has this happened for a while and did it just suddenly start happening? What driver mode, sample rate, bit depth and sample rate are you using?
Martin Schiff Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Do you have an anti-virus product running on your DAW? If so, try disabling real-time protection. I had a similar problem, and that solved it completely. 1

It doesn´t matter if any plugin is loaded or not. I tried a fresh and empty projects an it has the same effect... I use a RME RayDat with 256 buffer. Normally no problem... I checked the "On Stop Rewind" and it has also no effect.

What driver mode, sample rate, bit depth and sample rate are you using? Yes, with all projects, including a new and fresh one. It doesn´t matter what content is within the project (audio, midi, vst, a mix of all). I had this problem, a while ago with CWbB and it disappered. Now I had it again after installing a fresh new Sonar. ASIO, 48kHz, 24Bit Thanks!

moonbooter Posted 13 hours ago Author Posted 13 hours ago One more information: I also use NI Maschine, Ableton Live and a LE Version of Cubase. They are on the same PC and they are all working properly. And: I have a bunch of Midi-Devices connected to the computer. Are there any known problems with several installed Midi drivers (from Arturia, Roland, Korg, Steinberg, and so on) together with Sonar?
Promidi Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Is the RME RayDat the only audio driver installed and enabled on your system? Did Cubase install any audio driver (like Steinberg's universal ASIO driver) Is the RME RayDat driver a true ASIO driver and not a wrapper (or an ASIO4ALL like variant?) The way to tell if you are using native ASIO: While playing an audio Sonar project inside Sonar, adjust the Windows volume (via windows taskbar volume). If the volume does NOT change, then you are very likely using native ASIO. I am going to assume that you have uninstlalled and reinstalled the RME RayDat drivers (update if necessary). 2
Bass Guitar Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Yes the Steinberg driver has known issues with Sonar. You have to delete it in the RegEdit app. Look for Software/ASIO. Delete everything except your audio interface drivers. It’s OK to have other ASIO drivers for legitimate hardware as long as they are not connected. Example I have ASIO drivers for Motu, SSL and Zoom. But if you spot any 3rd party ASIO drivers like Magix or FL or Steinberg delete them. MIDI drivers don’t interfere with your audio. Not that this is the cause of your problem but it’s still best to eliminate any known issues when troubleshooting. 1

Make a "chart" that lists all of the settings in each one relevant to those, anything that is in the "panel" or "tab" for those in each program, and then compare them to see what's different in the ones that work vs the one(s) that don't. 1

So I deleted all ASIO registry entries with Yamaha/Steinberg, reboot. I also deleted any Steinberg driver. Then all other Asio-entries, except the RME ones. Reboot. Quick re-insallation of Cakewalk Sonar and RME driver. But this didn´t solve the problem. :o(

But this didn´t solve the problem Next thing I would try is, with Sonar closed, rename your AUD.INI file. It will be rebuilt next time you start Sonar. This file is in the following folder: (Make sure you configure Windows to show file extensions) %AppData%\Cakewalk\sonar\
