What happened to the Split Instrument/ Instrument track Icons?

If you have multiple MIDI tracks feeding one synth or multiple audio tracks being fed by one synth (one output of the synth or many), the concept of "a" Simple Instrument Track is meaningless.

Remove the word Simple. It’s exactly the same thing as the split with the addition of it can also have midi data in the same track. 
 

Is this all a misunderstanding of what the ( simple) Instrument Track is? 
 

What does multiple audio outputs have to do with this. That’s a function of the VST which can exist in both types of instrument tracks. 
 

As well as both types can be fed by as many midi tracks as possible.  I do this a lot.
