Hi!

How do you move a bar e.g. 4 bars to a different position, but so that it is in time? I know there is snap and grid...if the file is new, I can set the snap feature to 1/1, then move the file perfectly...but when my recorded file has e.g. four shouts in it, I delete the first, second and fourth one, then use the start and end markers to use the third shout only...then move this short file, using snap no longer works. What am I doing wrong?

e.g.

xxxxxyxxx

This is a recording...I want to use the y part only...I use the start and end of the file and move them closer...so it becomes y only...by getting rid of the xs visually.
But then the snap feature no longer works.

Wait, I'll use a screenshot. The first recording is fine...is in time, but I decide to use it 4 bars earlier... Then I decide to use the underlined middle part only. I move the left and right edges...then I have the sample I want... but this sample is 4 bars too late so I use snap and move it 4 bars forward, BUT it is no longer in time although the full file before adjusting the edges was.

Switch the snap mode to "By" instead of "To":

When the snap mode is "To", the clip will snap to align the left edge with the time grid, even if it wasn't aligned with the time grid to begin with. When set to "By", the clip will move in increments the size of the snap grid.

For example, if you have the snap grid set to Measure and the snap mode is "To", the clip will move so that the left edge is aligned with a measure, which won't necessarily move it the distance of one measure. But if the snap mode is "By", then the clip will move forward or backward "by" exactly one measure at a time.

I just use a CAL script that I have written for this.  (Actually its on a Studioware Panel I have written)

To use,

· Split the clip so that the section you want to copy is its own clip.
· Now NOW to the nearest measure that you want to copy the clip to (now does not have to be on the measure).
· Run the script below.

The copied clip will be copied to the destination, however the clips will start the same time before the measure that the original one did from its measure.

Note: This script works with Audio, MIDI and multiple tracks.
