MusicMan Posted November 28 Posted November 28 (edited) Magma StressBox shapes the musical tension and feel of your sounds, bringing new life into flat tracks. Turn right for explosive punch and energy, turn left for intimate control and focus.   Each twist transforms your track’s feel, adding drama, contrast, and movement in a single knob. TheSteven Posted December 1 Posted December 1 I picked up the plugin even though I could probably do with a little less drama in my life right now. 2

I tried this on drums and it didn't actually sound half bad. I'd never buy it.. but it wasn't entirely terrible for that particular use case 1

Still not sure if Kilohearts Snap Heap with the Dynamics and Transient Shaper can't do the same and more. 1

Haha.. There's not many Waves plugins that I don't feel you can replace with other plugins, but to their credit, they do have some good ones. If they changed some of their business practices, then I would've bought / used more. For the drums use case, there are generally plenty of options outside of Waves. I'm not sure that just those two in Kilohearts would get exactly the same vibe, but I'm pretty sure with Snapheap and a few other sweeteners in there, you likely could. 1

Thanks for the input - trying to keep my toolbox a little smaller and learn what I have, but could be holding back from some good plugins. Sounds like StressBox has some saturation going on too. Been using T-RackS Comprexxor or Soundtoys Devil-Loc for that heavier compression sound.

Welcome Pat Devil-loc is a beast! Love that one.. especially for parallel compression. TDR Molot GE really surprised me. It was one of the last TDR plugins I bought and once I spent some time with it, I was pretty blown away with how versatile it was. It's often on sale for $9.99 and excellent for heavy compression. Like a lot of TDR plugins, the free, non GE version gives a decent taste of what it can do so if you haven't already tried it, I'd recommend it, but the GE version is totally worth it!

Nice! Love the TDR plugins - have them all but the SimuLathe and OD ones. Molot GE is the one I haven't spent a lot of time with, but on list to dig into! 1

Same! Although there are still a couple of the new filters ones I don't have yet. I know we've slightly digressed for a Waves thread, but I can't believe how invaluable this Dan Worrall vid is on Molot GE. This was a complete eye opener and I learnt SO much about it from this one vid. I appreciated it so much more after watching it. Definitely worth a watch / rewatch if you're going to dig into Molot  Â

Sorry to those hoping we'd be talking more about StressBox. 🤪 1
