Skelm is indeed correct! I have experienced similar problems a few times, but not so often that I have managed to see any systematicity in the behavior. But I recognize the symptoms! The project does not open until I click away the suddenly recurring quick start window. So, some kind of bug still hides in the code! Not big, not frequent, but nevertheless...

And I have to add that this behaviour probably started last update!

To the OP.

following your chronology of installation an observation.

Could you have installed platinum after more recent versions. If so this would likely have overwritten newer files with old versions which could explain your problems. Just a thought.

Hi Noel,

It happens in all projects, but only for the first project opened after launching Sonar. Exact steps:

1) Launch Sonar (quick start menu must be enabled in previous session), and from the quick start menu, choose browse.

2) Browse to any project and open it.

3) The quick start screen displays again, and needs to be dismissed before the project will continue opening.

Opening projects after the first one works normally again.

Thanks.

This is exactly what happens to me.

Thank you for the update!

But I've found that in the new version, some of the Chinese texts are getting really small (arranger tracks, VST menus, articulation maps, etc).  This didn't happen in previous versions.

My displays are set to 100% so this is not related to high DPI scaling.

1.  I'm seeing a new bug in the tempo map.  When I try to delete a tempo point, or a series of tempo points, some won't delete.

2.  When I want to roll back to the previous version that I know does not have this bug, I get a message saying I can't do that.

Am I to interpret this as meaning I cannot roll back to an earlier version?

Does this happen with a particular project or any project with tempo changes?

Are you using the Free Tier or the Membership tier?

I'm paying for Cakewalk, Membership.  I closed the app and reopened it and I am not seeing the bug now.  It seems like when there's a series of tempos, I have to delete the last one first, in order to delete all of them.  Not sure about this.   I'm only working on one project so I don't know if it's happening in other projects, probably not as I would have noticed it before, I use a lot of tempo changes in my music.

I am sure though that I wasn't able to roll back to version 31.09.0.038 or any other previous version.  Am I missing something?

In The Cakewalk Product Centre, I am assuming you have selected the “Rollbacks” option to list the roll back versions available to you.

Ah, no. I was using a downloaded earlier version. I rarely need to rollback and didn't know I wouldn't be able to simply install a previous version.

I'll do it the way you suggest if I ever do need to rollback.

Updated everything, including TH-U.  I see the Jensen speaker cabs, but I can't find the new doubler.

Technically Cakewalk Sonar and S-Plat are now very different programs. S-Plat uses PNG's and BMP's to generate the GUI Cakewalk Sonar does not, it uses vector graphics.

Cakewalk Sonar also has a much updated Audio engine.

On my two year old i9 14900K tower computer, I can not say I have experienced any GUI glitches, but then I am running a Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 8gig graphics card.
Having said that, Cakewalk Sonar runs fine on my old i7 4790K CPU from 2014 PC, which only has a 2Gig graphics card.

Can I ask what CPU are you using, how much RAM, does your machine have, do you only have the one disk drive, what graphics chips does your laptop have installed?

I9 14900K here as well.  It’s still completely a beast.  GTX 3050 here. 64 Gig memory running OC’d at 6800.

Uh - found it and it is really nice.

Why are you over clocking the machine, absolutely no need on a DAW unless you game on the same PC, if that is the case I suggest you run two profiles, one no OC, one with the OC enabled.

I run my i9 at default clock speed, my RAM, which is 6200 is XMP to that speed. My audio device Clarett Pre 8 USB is s either at 128 samples for most mixing and tracking but I sometimes drop it to 96 when tracking guitar.

Reading about your graphics card I wonder if it is the bottleneck, consider trying without OC'ing the machine.

I would have to concur with this....

There have been no changes to the way the tempo track works in a long while.

The tempo track is basically an automation envelope, which is then quantised into a tempo map each time it's modified.  Like any other automation envelope, you can get yourself into a state where multiple nodes exist at the same point in time.  So it's likely the delete is actually working, but you're now seeing another tempo node underneath.

FYI - here's an explanation of how the Tempo Track works:

This won't make any difference - the software is exactly the same.

The only feature that differs between Free Tier and Membership is the Track Manager, where the Free Tier shows the old Show/Hide Tracks Dialog, but the underlying code is exactly the same for both - just a different UI.  For everything else, there is zero difference between Free & Membership tiers - Free Tier just has some features disabled.

I ask the membership question as the OP was also referring to the RollBack feature which is a membership only feature.

OC’d because of habit.  I’ve been building studio-level computers for decades now and this one flat out rocks even after being two years old - which typically would be “long in the tooth” with older builds.

Bottleneck ?  Huh ?  I don’t have any bottle necks.  There isn’t anything I can’t throw at this however I do utilize AudioGridder to network to two laptops to process some seriously heavy-duty plugs (Acustica Audio) during mixing/mastering when latency is not an issue.

I would not overclock the i9-14900k. It is basically overclocked at the factory.  Heat issues can degrade the cpu.  There are motherboard microcode updates that resolve prior reported degradation issues.

With the microcode updates, the i9-14900k is awesome, including for Sonar!

Thanks for checking - yes, I am on the latest build, but it started happening in the previous build. I did some testing with the quick start menu disabled and everything seems fine, but if I enable the quick start menu I see the described behaviour again.

@siordanescu & Salvatore - are you clicking "browse" from the quick start menu and then opening a project? That is when I am seeing the issue.

Yes. I do exactly what you did and everything works perfectly for me.
