pcp files, Windows 11

I can't figure out where the ProChannel pcp files are stored on my Windows 11 computer. Thanks for any help.

If you mean Pro Channel presets. Either Under your user profile in the C drive, or under Cakewalk Content on which ever drive you have that.

There are some pcp files in the folder C:\Cakewalk Content\Sonar\ProChannel Presets\.   What I do not see are the much larger number of ProChannel EQ presets that I can see when I click where the yellow arrow indicates below. I have no idea where those are.

Also I guess my user profile is at C:\Users\Owner\. There are no pcp files there.

If you are comfortable going into the registry, then open the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Cakewalk\Sonar\UserPaths

look for the following value name:

ProChannelStripPresetFolder

The path shown there is where Sonar expects to find your ProChannel Presets.

Thanks Promidi. Am I comfortable going into the registry - not so much just yet.

It appears that I want to run regedit - is that right?  When I start that I get the warning message -- "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device."  At that point I said "no" - but perhaps there is no harm in saying "yes?"

If you say “no”, does it still open? (mine just opens it, defaulting to “yes”). 

For this task, you are not making changes, just looking (and perhaps copying the path), so saying “no” should suffice in this instance.

Now, remember, this is where Sonar expects to find the ProChannel Presets.   You might need to do a system search for more PCP files and then copy/move them in this location for them to all be visible in Sonar.

Those are module presets. On page 1031 of the latest Cakewalk Sonar Reference Guide it says:

Note: ProChannel module presets are stored in the Windows Registry under \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk
Music Software\ActiveMovie\Presets. You can export this registry branch in order to backup your presets. You can also
rename and delete presets directly if you are comfortable with editing registry entries. Always back up the registry before making
any changes manually.

So there won't be any .pcp files for those. You can delete, edit and save them, but all the info is stored in the registry.

Ok - I successfully ran regedit. It says HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Cakewalk\Sonar\UserPaths is:

C:\Cakewalk Content\Sonar\ProChannel Presets\

When I look there, it is as I said before. The are several dozen pcp files, but most of the presets I see when I click as explained in my post above (yellow arrow) are not there. They must exist because I can load and save them, when I load one of these it works.

Yes, you have figured out that preset backup is exactly the point of all this. I don't yet know how to export a registry branch. I'll see what youTube can tell me.

I seem to have succeeded. Thx again Chaps.

Still I think that there should be a better way to backup ProChannel presets than using regedit.
