Dean
If you're trying to hear a note immediately upon adding it, the sound preview function may be turned off. Go to Edit > Preferences (or the equivalent Settings > Preferences menu, depending on your Cakewalk version). In the preferences window, find the option for "Sound Preview" and make sure the "Enable" checkbox is selected. So I have cakewalk sonar. Using the above instructions doesn't get me there. Do I need to do something else? Do you need more information? Thanks
Dean
This is really embarrassing. But maybe it will help someone. I have one track that is a piano. And one track that is a guitar from Ample Sound called T 6, which is a 6 String Taylor. All the notes on the piano play. But not all the notes on the guitar play. So after searching for any solution I happened to look up at the guitar icon and tried playing the non playing note. Then I noticed that those two notes were on the same string. Duh. You can only play one note on a string. I moved the non playing note and problem solved. Have a good laugh!

As a keyboard player I totally get it - guitars are so weird... 🤪

That depends on how you are playing it, and whether you want the first note to continue while the second note is playing. (at least, on a real guitar).
