Soline GEZE
Hi everyone, I’ve been running into a strange issue in Cakewalk Next with MIDI clips. When I split or shorten a MIDI clip, the software seems to keep the hidden notes that were originally beyond the split point, even if they’re no longer visible in the clip. Later, when I move clips around or place them next to each other, those hidden notes reappear — sometimes they duplicate perfectly on top of each other, and I end up with two identical notes playing at once. This also happens if I drag a note so it overlaps both clips: every note gets duplicated. I tried using “Bounce to new clip” to clean things up, but it causes another problem: my sustain pedal (CC64) behaves incorrectly afterward — it cuts off abruptly. Basically, I’d like to be able to split a clip destructively, meaning that any notes or CC data beyond the split point are actually deleted, not just hidden. Is there a setting or option for this in Cakewalk Next?
Amberwolf
I don't know if Next has the functions, but in Sonar you can just Apply Trimming (which I have bound to the 4 key) or Bounce To Clip (which I have boudn to the 3 key). If your sustain CC doesn't work right after bouncing, it probably means another event is being added to the clip (by next, presumably) to turn it off at the end of the clip, or there is some other built in or pre-set behavior in next to do that at the end of a clip with a sustain cc. Again, don't know if Next has the option, but Sonar can also turn off NDE for MIDI entirely if you like; I think the details are here: Edited Sunday at 07:14 PM by Amberwolf
Christopher Amato
@Soline GEZE Sorry for the troubles! I do see the issue here with the notes reappearing and I'll let the team know so we can fix that! There is no setting to destructively edit notes by rolling and unrolling a MIDI clip. What you are seeing with the note still existing at the same length when you unroll the clip is how it is intended to work, however the note length should be consistent with what you are seeing - so shortening a clip should also shorten the note. I will pass along this feedback as well to the team though! Thanks for your post and stay tuned for updates!
