What happened to these clips?

Can anyone tell me what happened to these clips? This happens every once and a while and I can't figure it out.

This will also happen when Punch recording with Mute Previous Takes enabled. In either case, swipe through the upper half of the clip with the Mute tool as Mark mentioned to unmute them.

Normally outlined clips like that indicate the area of the clip has been muted using the mute tool (under the erase tool on the toolbar).
