Big J and the H Bombs
Anyone have a good suggestion for a drum kit plugin that has a 1965 or even much earlier sound? Specifically interested in very basic jazz kit plugins with brushes and no built in reverb. I currently use a kit that came with my Sonar Session Drummer some years ago (SmartLoops, GroovyKit Brushes), but I'm finding it rather limited. All my searches for "vintage" drums seem to yield 1970s style drum sounds (or what I refer to as "classic"). Maybe I need to search for "antique" drums instead! OutrageProductions
NI has the Abbey Road Vintage drums, sampled with old skin heads & brushes. I use it often when doing 20's & 30's jazz tracks & Dixieland. I searched extensively in other libraries and nothing compares. Battery 3 had a great brush set circa 2005, but the kit was much newer and brighter. Edited September 28 by OutrageProductions

Initially overlooked as I imagined more post 1965 Beatles sounds like so many other folks seem to prefer. Will check it out. Thank you! BTW, do you post any of your vintage jazz and Dixie on BandLab? Would love to her it!
OutrageProductions
https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/drums/abbey-road-vintage-drummer/equipment-details/ Scroll down to the equipment list... antique shells & calfskin heads, and they sound old. And my copyrights from the films that I score won't allow me to post samples, sorry.

But you could list the films you've scored that have those bits in them...? I thought I'd seen some old jazz drums on Pianobook but cant find them now...but I ran across this funny one while I was looking: https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/cat-toy-drums/
Amberwolf
I dunno if any of the stuff mentioned in this thread on VI Control is useful https://vi-control.net/community/threads/jazz-drums-brush-what-are-you-using.147857/
Bass Guitar
Funny how brushes are so hard to find good quality samples for. Years ago I gave up looking and ordered a set of VicFirth wire brushes. I have a Ludwig Vistalite snare. It has a Remo Fiberskin head. Those are the modern day version of a Calfskin. So I recorded this and have about 10 different samples. I play them using Session Drummer with the snare and Octapad thing. The hardest sample to find is a good drag across the head sound. Im glad to see the return of Session Drums. It’s the only drum VST Im aware of that allows you to play your own samples.

Well...how far back are you willing to go? DR-008 was as fully customizable as I can think of (moreso than SD). I haven't used EZdrummer or Superior Drummer, but I have read posts about others here using those (don't remember if that was on the current bandlab version of the forum or the legacy one).
