Not my genre either, but I kind of get it when following the lyrics. Yeah, the distortion creates a sense of irritation and rejection (as noted in some of the comments), which I believe works well with lyrical concept (crooked people). Can't imagine using such lyrics backed by a pleasing harmonious love ballad. Just wouldn't fit. So, I'm giving you thumbs up. The music fits the concept 100%. As far as the critic about the sound quality, its always nice to have ears to help you along, and many here have good ears (I'm not one of them). So, I'll avoid such critic and let others who do guide you.

And to FreeEarCandy,

A love ballad this is not! That made me smile.

I'm glad for the ears on this, I am looking into it.

And to the Galtieri's: thanks for the listen!

The song is ambiguously about hidden manipulators, ancient power, and the systemic rot of society. The farm is society — the people are livestock being worked and harvested and finally everything is salted and corrupted, including our bones. The crows cry “pain” as witnesses, laughing and mourning at the same time, I guess. Don't ask me where this stuff comes from.

Crows...always remind me of Haibane Renmei, which has a different subject, but is a very good little short show.  In that, someitmes the crows are annoying, sometimes they appear to be trying to save someone, sometimes they appear they might be doing the opposite.  (open to interpretation).  There's an entire forum dedicated to discussing all the facets of the show....

Pretty cool song! I agree with treesha about the background guitar. You might try doing another track of that guitar and hard-panning each one to right and left. It's important that you play another track rather than copy the existing one.

Thanks Kevin, are you referring to the rhythm guitar in the choruses or the distorted bass guitar in the verses and choruses?

I agree with your brightening idea, I'll look into this Maag4 product, haven't heard of it before.

I really like Maag 4, I probably use it in every song somewhere, and its on sale now for 20$ at plugin-alliance.com. A free one supposed to be similar just was released and in the comments people are complaining about the installation stuff, and another one was mentioned that people like that is free called Luftikus by lkjb and I was curious so downloaded it and compared it to my MAAG 4 and it was a little brighter on what I tried it on with same settings on both. I was just messing with them not a serious comparison and not even on multiple samples. But I do think its in the ballpark if you want a free vs paid product. FYI

I'm hesitant to put this song up for song and mix review.

I feel the same about my stuff :)   I really liked the song.  The distorted synth was cool and I thought the vocal fit the vibe.   Drums were very cool. The only thing that didn't quite work for me was the synth line that came in at about 1:30.  It didn't seem to fit well.  On the other hand when the theme came in again at around 2:00 with the guitar it had a much better feel to it. Sorry, I'm not sure how to articulate more clearly what was off in the synth line for me.
