Want new measure down beat marker while using same tempo

I wrote with a similar question last year only I was also trying to change the tempo at the same time.  Hopefully, this is easier to do.

I have song that has a tempo of 90 bpm throughout the whole tune.

I like to  navigate quickly through my songs with Ctrl-PgDn and Ctrl-PgUp as well as moving from marker to marker.  The problem arises when there's a tempo or measure change that moves from the original downbeat later on in the song.

If I Ctrl-PgUp from the beginning the stops are at 00:00, 02:20, 05:10, 08:00, 10:20, 13:10, 16:00, 18:20, 21:10,  etc...

I would like to then insert a new measure beat reset at 17:10:

That is where I want to reset the Ctrl-Up arrow behavior to advance to my new beat instead of 18:20 like before.  I would think it would now be something like 19:40 .  It keeps going to 18:20 so I'm sure I'm doing something wrong that's probably simple to fix.

Thanks.

I'm not sure I understand the issue... or maybe that you understand it. Your transport module is showing SMPTE time. That's only ever going to be in sync with whole measures at tempos of 15, 30, 60, 120 and 240bpm, and you're currently at 90bpm where a measure is 1/3 of a second (20 frames) longer than 2 seconds. So the frame value will increase by 20 frames mod 30 with every measure, giving you 20, 10, 00, 20, 10, 00... as you're seeing.

You might consider putting 1 measure of 3/4 time in @ the 7th measure. That will put 7:03 as 8:01 change 8:01 back to 4/4.

I hope I read this correctly.

I thought of a suggestion like this yesterday, but was thinking of a measure of 2/4 since from my understanding is that the change needs to come on the the downbeat immediately after 2 quarter notes. (Regrettably, I didn't have the time to test this to see if it would meet the OP's requirements.)

That's right. Ignoring the OP's mention of SMPTE times, which might just have been intended to indicate where he wants the downbeat in absolute time, changing the time signature to 2/4 at 7:01 will put 8:01 at SMPTE 00:00:17:10 where 7:03 is currently without changing the tempo.

If the tempo doesn't need to be held at 90bpm through measure 7,  you could also get 8:01 to hit SMPTE time 17:10 by changing the tempo at 7:01 to 4 / 3 * 90 = 120bpm (4 beats at 120bpm to go by in the time of 3 at 90bpm).  If there's already MIDI in the project that needs to maintain its absolute timing you can use Set Measure/Beat At Now to make the necessary tempo changes.

- Snap the Now time to 7:01, Shift+M for Set Measure/Beat At Now and anchor it where it is by entering Measure 7, Beat 1.

- Snap the Now time to 7:01, and SM/BAN it to 8:01.

- To get the tempo back to 90 at 8:01. snap the Now time to 9:01 and SM/BAN it to 8:04.

I ran out of time yesterday to write back but this was what I did and it solved my problem:

"changing the time signature to 2/4 at 7:01 will put 8:01"  (David Baay)

I don't want to change the tempo but just extend the intro of the song by half a measure.   This 2/4 measure insert get me on my correct down beat for Ctrl-Pgdns later.

Thanks.
