*The Travel Song -
a track written around a sony Acid drum loop drum track.
kind of a king's x vibe.
the thing about this one is..... and the reason it comes off as a bit smoother than some of the other material, is...... it's a Waltz!
LOL... well, actually, 6/8 time. but i feel it like a waltz when i play it.
the story behind the lyric.....

i wrote this, right after finding out about a real hard time my two friends were having on their 'cross-europe' bike trip....
at Gatwick airport.
this is about these guys having one of their 2 bikes trashed by the airlines,
and then running into some friends later down the road, that showed up and helped out. they finished their trip in grand style!

This has a really strong 70's/80's prog feel, like a unique blend of Yes, Boston,  Head East and Styx. Except of course it's also totally Bat's Brew, but whatever it is, it's rocks. Stellar production and I really love the vocals. You're going to have to do a class on your approach to vocals one of these days. Great acoustic/electric interplay and the break was worth  a Grammy all by itself.  One of my Bat's Brew favorites!

alright kevin! thanks for breaking the ice, so to speak...

thanks for the comments, i appreciate the support.

"Head East", interesting name drop there...

i always loved the way danny piper played the rhythm guitars on that one song of there, never had any reason...

my vocal approach:

you know, my setup is so basic...

i've got 3 good mics, and a couple of 57's..

i usually use a Shure KSM44 on the vox, thru my RME Babyface Pro interface, set flat, and i record a few passes just to learn the song, and play it back to hear what i like, and what i hate (i hate most of it) and then i just stand and go for it.

i always record dry, so i'm not influenced by false sustain of delays or reverbs, i can hear the pitch better that way. boring and dry. then i add the 'jape' later.

if i get the whole pass, great, but if i have to punch in at the to of each verse or chorus, i'll do it.

then i go back and do the harmonies. harmonies are the easiest thing for me to write, but hardest to sing (well).

other than that, the approach is really to be mentally ready to do it. which means having everything setup, levels done, all i have to do is go into a session and just sing.

a shot of tequila and a puff is not mandatory, but also not discouraged.  LOL

I knew there was some kind of magic juju going on in there. You have such  rich lush vocals in all of your tunes. It must be the brand of tequila.  😁

ah, the tequila mo jo....

yes,  i do not imbibe much any more,

but my choice would be a good anejo, Tapatio Tequila Anejo is good enough for me. LOL

i think i'd rather have 'other' voices to blend with mine, but sometimes i'm just stuck in the studio ready to go, and i run with my own voice.

i don't hear it as 'lush',  but i like the idea of that!
