charles kasler
I just opened a project I've been working on and the whole first verse is missing except for the vocal, including the arranger track. There's the intro and then several blank measures and then verse 2. I can't imagine what went wrong. I had one mix recall that I must have done at the beginning of the project but it was the same. I went into file explorer to look for a backup but there weren't any and also there were no individual folders for each project like in CBB. Has this changed in sonar? In CBB I used to see the project plus a saved or backup version, I forget exactly what it was called. Any thoughts about how to recover this? Thank you! David Baay
If you Save As a project to a new location without having the 'Copy all audio with project' option checked, you'll have a project file without a per-project folder referencing audio in another location. Right-click any audio clip in the project and choose 'Associated Audio Files' to see where the referenced file is living. Your missing file is likely still in that folder. Or if you've been splitting longer recordings or loop-recording, it may be part of another audio file referenced in that track. charles kasler
Thanks david, I don't have it in front of me right now but as I recall none of the projects were in their own folders in file explorer, whereas they all were in CBB. I'll try what you suggested and see what happens. It seems like a setting has changed inadvertently coming from CBB to sonar? How could this even happen, user error? There's not supposed to be anything different in the free tier sonar from CBB. Edited Thursday at 11:46 PM by charles kasler Addition

I could imagine Sonar creating a new project without a project folder (by having the 'Copy all audio' option unchecked as mentioned), leaving recorded/imported audio in the Global 'Audio Data' folder, but I can't see how it would eliminate an existing project folder established by CbB. charles kasler
I didn't change anything, just went from CBB to Sonar. I don't see anything wrong in the file locations in preferences, copy all data is still checked. One of my project folders has each song in it's own folder but none of the others do. Auto-save was every 15 minutes & I thought it was more often, so I just changed it now. I do see the auto-save copies are still in my folders but even the auto-save is missing the same tracks. I just opened CBB & it looks the same as Sonar. One of those unsolved mysteries...thanks for yr input!
Bass Guitar
Is this possibly the new track manager hiding tracks? That is one change that has happened.

If tracks are hidden, the track manager button will be lit. Clicking on it will unhide all hidden tracks; clicking again will hide the any tracks that were previously hidden. FYI - any hidden track presets you make in the track manager can be accessed quickly by right clicking this button: 1
Michael Vogel
You could also try checking your CbB folders in case your Sonar project has been saved there. Edited Saturday at 03:10 AM by Michael Vogel
charles kasler
Thanks for the replies, it wasn't entire tracks that were missing just several measures within tracks. The files before and after the missing space we're intact. Good shortcut about the track manager also, thanks
