Making an audio track out of a midi track

Recommended Posts

I've got a kick  on midi on track one. I'd like to record it to audio track 2.

I can't seem to remember how to do it.

Anybody got any help for me.

I know it's a simple thing to do, I've done it many times but it's been so long since I've used Sonar

I can't seem to figure it out.

Assuming the MIDI track is a Simple Instrument Track, (or a SIT), do the following:

· From the Send to of Track 1,  right click and create a Patch point
· On the audio track you want to record to, Select its input as the Patch point you created above.
· Move NOW to before the start of the kicks.
· Arm audio track and record.

Ah Sonar. So versatile that 3 different users can each have our own way of accomplishing the same task.

When I want to do this I make an Aux track with the audio output of the Synth track routed to it.

Really, all of these solutions work. Choose the one that vibes with ya.

I freeze, then I clone the entire track, fx, contents, clips, envelopes, sends, etc (and verify input set to none) to a new track and rename that track to "rendered" plus whatefver the name was.

Then unfreeze the synth so I can use it for more stuff (sometimes with the same preset, sometimes with a different one, sometimes just with different fx or slightly differnet fx settings, when I'm sure I will be using a particular bit of stuff in a synth track as-is.

Hi Guys - none of these is working. I've got a midi kick that I can hear on track 1.

I'd like to turn it into an audio track on track 2 and keep the midi track on track one in case I want to change something

I've tried the freeze, the bounce to track and nothing will put this midi track on empty track 2 as an audio track.

I'm spending so much time on this simple thing I really need some help.

Thanks

Okay. What is making the noise, a software synthesizer driven by the MIDI in track 1, or a hardware synth, such as in a keyboard ?

If a software synth, select both the MIDI track and the soft synth track by holding down the Ctrl key while clicking on the track number.

Then you can Bounce To Track(s) and choose which track for the bounced audio.

If a hardware synthesizer in a MIDI keyboard, you will have to connect audio cables from the keyboard to your audio interface's audio input. Select the corresponding input in your audio track, arm the track and click the Record button, or press 'R' on the computer keyboard.

Once that is done, you can Archive the original track if you want to, which will remove the track from processing.

This is about the most basic operation for any DAW. You might want to spend a little time with the manual.

Please pardon any typos and I can't post any images from Sonar, as I am on my phone .

Create a track with the  instrument you want (drum), drag the midi track to the instrument track, export it as an audio.

Make sure that the midi file and the instrument you choose have the kick on the same  note

Open that audio, you can delete the midi track because  the instrument track  keep it

A midi "track" is nothing more than indications, it does not have "audio" information as such, but the indications for the synthesizer to emit its "audio"

Nope, not 3 more weeks, it's driving me nuts. I'm using addictive drums and it's making the sound it should but when I do the 'Bounce To Track' thing it says something like 'there's no audio to convert' but I assumed it was an instrument track because it's got the addictive drums on the track.

Also, when I just have the bass drum playing it won't let the hat not play even when I'm muting the hat, then I press the solo key on the bass drum and the hat still plays .I've been using sonar so long all my other songs are playing just like I want and are all audio tracks but this one won't do it.  I've used the bounce to tracks way and the freeze way and they both do nothing.

So sorry to be such a moron but of course you guys are my only recourse, Sonar has no customer service like the old Cakewalk used to.

Would anybody like to make some cash by getting me thru this?

The OP only called it a Midi track.
In Sonar that normally means it’s just that. Midi data. A track that makes no sound so therefore bouncing or freezing it will not do anything.

What we don’t know is what is actually making the sound.

I guess we’ll find out in 3 more weeks.

"What we have here is failure to communicate" is a famous line from the 1967 film Cool Hand Luke, spoken by the character the Captain (Strother Martin) to the prisoner Luke (Paul Newman) after another escape attempt. The line has become an iconic part of popular culture, representing situations where a lack of understanding or connection leads to problems or conflict.

I don 't think you are a moron.  I think its that (1) you used poor wording when you said you had a midi kick and (2) people trying to help you out have assumed you know what you meant even if it was not clear to anyone else.  I think the newest post should provide some of the information needed so those helping you have something to go on.

I would have suggested a different method, (insert an instrument and point the midi track to the instrument--and possibly merge/combine them), but I don't want to add to the confusion.  I think you are almost there!

Route the output within addictive drums to a number - create an audio track in the daw and route its Input to the output number within Addictive Drums.
