Larry Shelby
Just got this message ( I know I'm late to the party...LOL) And an offer to buy Sonar Premium for $49. I hate that ONE, they are ending CbB, and TWO, Subscriptions. Anyways....BOOOOOO Edited Thursday at 02:36 PM by Larry Shelby 2 2
Brian Walton
Agreed. Supertone Clear keeps crashing Sonar every time I load it which does not happen with CbB on the same machine(s). Support doesn't have a fix yet. So other than giving up my custom themes, this does make the move frustrating. Would be nice if they just kept the auth sever going or got rid of the short phone home until Sonar feels as stable and universally compatible.
Soundwise
I really like current Sonar. Free tier is just as capable as CbB, and comes with new look and features. 2
Clint Martin
I'm not a fan of subscriptions but I think Cakewalk did a pretty cool thing here. Say I subscribe for a year and then let it run out. I'm not dead in the water. It would just revert back to the free tier and my projects are still available to work on. For me, that makes Cakewalk a viable option. I just have to decide if I'm going to stick with PC or move to the dark side and buy a Mac mini.
husker
Its hard to even see any type of long term plan for this product. Its been really confusing the last few years.

Seriously, though, I think Macs are great and I wish I could afford one.

It's not just Apple doing that either. MS will have to rethink their TMP requirement. I also had to upgrade a video card just to use Kontakt 7.

I have had Windows 11 installed on an i7 4770 system for over a year and it works a treat. Detestable Start Menu notwithstanding. Who is it at MS that hates the Start Menu so much? Microsoft could easily block non-compliant Windows 11 upgrades, but they don't. They seem content to keep it as an "at your own risk" option for the adventurous. Kontakt isn't the only Vi that requires a certain level of GPU. My old 2nd gen i7 laptop can't run IK's MODO instruments.

I've installed <Open-Shell Menu (currently v4.4.xxx)> on all my studios machines since I left Win7 because the desktop/startmenu/contextmenu/explorer appearance was deeply engrained in my cortex. I have it set to Win7 Classic because I have absolutely hated the Metro look since it's inception. Works perfectly under Win11 pro. https://open-shell.github.io/Open-Shell-Menu/ Clients peek over my shoulder and remark that "you're still running Win7?", and I just have to giggle.

(My PC is officially unsupported, so Rufus it is..) I have a laptop that was ready for everything except the CPU being 6 months too old to make the cut. Installed Win11 (using some Registry mods) and it works perfectly, including updates. The Opensource Shell Menu was updated specifically for Win11 early last year, no issues.

I recommended a $600 Mac Mini with 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD plus $200 for Logic to our studio as a replacement for CbB. $800 was too much because Sonar was working fine so far.
