Sometimes it depends on the developer and whether they encrypt the actual sounds, or expose the raw sounds. You do lose any of their customization and sound design that way though. I'm trying to only buy VST3 stuff these days. VST2 is definitely on the way out. Even though it could be continued really. But I'm just trying to avoid as many hoops to jump through down the track with compatibility issues.
