chakko Posted yesterday at 11:32 AM Share Posted yesterday at 11:32 AM Reading through a few of these "Will Sonar be available as a standalone purchase/perpetual license soon?", I always read the same reply, that it might come one day, but, that both Sonar and Cakewalk next are only available with a Bandlab subscription at the moment. I think that's the case for over a year now, and, I really don't see any indication for that to change at some point, apart from half-hearted and vague hints that there could be a perpetual license option available at some point. Which could be tomorrow, next year, in five years, or never. Frankly, my money is on never. It doesn't look to me at all as if they sill had planned to sell a perpetual license for Sonar. I wonder how many people still use CbB instead, because of this situation.

If it finally does it will be because they changed their minds and not because they finally made a decision. The decision has been made. Where’s my thread lock icon…

Especially as it has been communicated some time ago that there WILL be a perpetual license. Guess that's how plans change.

Guess that's how plans change. maybe provide a reference to the post where Bandlab or the Cakewalk team articulated there WILL be a perpetual license? perpetual licenses are a thing of the past. Studio One for example, claims to have a perpetual license. all you have to do is buy the new version every year LOL.

Well, at least you can continue to use the software after a year, unlike a subscription service. Thus "perpetual" license. I would have to dig deep to find the posts stating that there will be a perpetual license, but, I wouldn't remember if, if it hadn't been stated multiple times, also by developers here. Glenn Stanton Posted yesterday at 06:59 PM Share Posted yesterday at 06:59 PM (edited) i find that skipping two or three starbucks coffees per month pays for my bandlab membership. i didn't find the time to stress over it and sure as heck wasn't going to another DAW because of it. I could've sworn it was announced. Wasn't that whole "Early access" through Bandlab membership meant as a preview to the perpetual license? Glenn Stanton Posted yesterday at 07:04 PM Share Posted yesterday at 07:04 PM no, pretty sure "early access" was to give folks a discount on the Bandlab Membership and obtain an early Sonar release...
chakko Posted yesterday at 07:08 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 07:08 PM Guess I totally misunderstood their plans then.
Mr No Name
does Sonar work on Mac?
Terry Kelley
Nope. Seems Next was supposed to. The Bandlab people here did everything they could to say no without saying no. There wasn’t much vagueness though. They finally had to start locking threads about it. Like this one will be shortly. That's the thing. If the answer is no, just say so. Then nothing is unclear. No need to beat around the bush. Glenn Stanton
i think the main challenge was the lack of marketing people coming on the forum to explain their approach vs the developers who don't control the marketing and sales aspect...
Terry Kelley
Yeah, the developers aren’t the bad guys here and they took the brunt of the vitriol.
