Al Murray
Hello all, I am in need of help and I expect the core problem is me missing something obvious and being dim. I have recently acquired a Roland JU-06A, mainly for the knob twiddling. However, when sending midi - playing a track - to it from Sonar [latest version] what happens is it won't let me change patches - it's stuck on Patch 1.1, basically. Rewinding a track resets any changes made with the aforementioned knobs. The upshot of this is the JU-06a is heading towards being a £300 paperweight. It's fun as a standalone, but that's not what I want. I also have a Nord Drum 2 which occasionally exhibits this behaviour and reverts to Patch 1.1. I can change the patch while Sonar is playing and but press rewind and go back to the start and it resets to 1.1. What do I do to stop this from happening? What MIDI settings will stop this? Which dreaded unticked/ticked boxes do I need to tick/untick? All versions and drivers are up to date. Thanks in advance.
Wookiee
@Al Murray first thing in Preferences deselect Zero MIDI controllers on stop or is it rewind can't remember, it is one of those. Do you actually have the correct Patch and Bank set in the Patch and Bank selection of the track in Sonar? If not there is just a chance it can reset to Patch 1 Bank 1. You have presumably add an instrument definition for the Juno?
Al Murray
Boom! "Preferences deselect Zero MIDI controllers on stop or is it rewind" that did it, thanks Wookie 1

"Preferences deselect Zero MIDI controllers on stop or is it rewind" that did it, thanks Wookie Any idea what fixed the problem? I always thought that "Zero MIDI controllers on stop" affected CCs; never thought it would also reset the Patch. I can understand that the Patch Track-Control Widget could reset the Patch when using rewind. Looks like I might have to re-read the manuals! Quote Zero Controllers When Play Stops. If you choose this option, Sonar sets the controller values of the pitch wheel, the sustain pedal, and the modulation wheel on all 16 MIDI channels to zero. It also sends a “zero all continuous controllers” MIDI message which turns off other continuous controllers on newer synthesizers. If you experience frequent stuck notes when playback stops, try checking this option. MIDI Event Chase on Play. If you choose this option, Sonar finds and sends the most recent patch changes, wheel events, and pedal events before starting playback. This way, all settings are correct even if you start playback at an arbitrary point in the project. Include Note Events. When MIDI Event Chase on Play is enabled, the Include Note Events option allows MIDI Note events to play even if they start earlier than the initial playback location. Hmmmmm. The MIDI Event Chase on Play option references patch changes, but not the Zero Controllers option. In any case, thanks for asking about this and for the reply. Glad to see you didn't end up with a £300 paperweight. It looks like handy controller. (Disclaimer: I am a fan of sliders!)

Setting everything to None on the Midi channel has helped but it's falling into the not quite solved category currently
