Matthias_L
Hello everyone, I am thinking about buying a Roland JV 1080 of the Roland Cloud. I am particularly interested in the variety of presets (natural instruments). However, there is also the Roland XV 5080 in the Cloud. I once read somewhere that the XV 5080 contains all presets of the JV1080. If this is true, buying the JV 1080 would be total nonsense, as both devices cost the same and I would then naturally go for the XV 5080. Does anyone have both modules and can say something about them? Unfortunately, I just found a list of the 1080s presets.
Wookiee
@Matthias_L the XV5080 does indeed include all the same presets as the JV1080. It should be noted though that both these plugings can only play single patches. Unlike their hardware equivalent they do not have the facilities to play performance patches, which could consist of 16 patches.
Matthias_L
Hello Wookiee, Thank you very much for the information. That really helps me, as it has made my decision in favor of the XV 5080. The issue with the single patches is annoying, but I think I'll get the plugin. I really like the old Roland sound and it goes well with my existing D50.
msmcleod
As @Wookiee says, the XV5080 does everything that the JV1080 does plus a LOT more. The XV5080 is a much more powerful synth, but as such, editing patches is more involved. Not saying the JV1080 is a simple synth by any means, but it is less intimidating in some respects. Personally, given the choice I'd choose the XV5080 every time.
Matthias_L
Hi msmcleod Yes, this is in line with what I have heard and read on the internet. I took a look at the editing pages of the XV 5080 on the Roland website. There are a lot of parameters, but I like this and the structure is very logical for me. I particularly like the envelope with the two! attack and decay times and levels. My D50 also has this, which I really appreciate. To summarize, my decision has been made for the XV 5080.
