Eric Brad
Hi All Hope everyone is doing well. I have updated my laptop to a newer model and chose to clone my existing drive to use in the new laptop. Everything works fine but I have this weird issue. Every time I start CbB I get the "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?" Doesn't matter how many times I select "Yes" the prompt appears every time I start the app. Everything else works fine after starting. Has anyone else run into this? If so, what is the fix? Thanks in advance for any advice! Eric
Chaps
That message is a function of the Windows User Account Control Settings. Do you get that message for all programs you run or just Cakewalk? You can enable/disable the message and select the 'sensitivity' of the warning in your Windows User Account Control Settings. It's a normal security function of Windows to keep unwanted apps from running on your computer. I just leave it on the default setting for security reasons. When you open Cakewalk and you get that message, in that window (Windows 11) should be 'Show more details', click that and on the next window click 'Change when these notifications appear' and that will take you to your User Account Control Settings. That will show you the global security setting for that warning. Here is mine with the default setting. Is yours set differently?

Prompt to allow changes as before. Change notifications are set as follows:

I have it always running as an administrator because I had problems using Adobe Audition as a tool in Cakewalk and I couldn't get it to work unless both were run at administrator level. You can change the default by selecting Run this program as an administrator in the Compatibility Properties.

You can change the default by selecting Run this program as an administrator in the Compatibility Properties. Do NOT do this. Running a program as administrator gives a program unrestricted access to all aspects of your machine. Any plugin will also have unrestricted access, and given that these can come from any source (esp the free ones), this is extremely risky. Sometimes it's necessary to do this temporarily for older plugins (i.e. Cakewalk Dimensions), but you should not run as administrator as a matter of course. You can disable the prompt as follows: Disable the UAC dialog box via User Account Control Settings 1. Press the Windows key, type control, and select Control Panel. 2. Select User Accounts from the list. 3. Now, click the User Accounts option. 4. Go to Change User Account Control settings. 5. Now drag the bar slider to Never notify. 6. Press the OK button to apply the selected setting. 7. Click Yes on the UAC window that opens.
