Notes_Norton
Hard to say, since there are so many genres. Beethoven symphonies #4 and #7 by the Cleveland Orchestra, George Szell conducting. I can't find this one on YouTube, but it's my two favorite Beetoven Symphonies and a great interpretation. OR.. When I was a young student, playing in the beginning band, and not very wise about jazz yet, I walked into a record store and asked for a saxophone record. The owner suggested Focus, by Stan Getz. I wore out 3 LPs, and have it on CD. It was over my head then, but as I grew, so did my appreciation. The entire sax performance is an improvisation over the orchestrated background. How about a Gino Vanelli LP with a little symphony in the middle? or: Breakfast In America - Supertramp Time Out - Dave Brubeck Quartet Yes anyone? Aqualung - Jethro Tull I like this one better than Aja Manhattan Transfer - Extensions I could go on and on

Right, everybody who likes Bitches Brew by M.Davis is a Hippy and doesn' t know anything about real Jazz. Edited June 14 by Pragi

Miles was playing the Fillmore supporting rock bands and was also at the Isle of Wight festival, so he was exposed to much larger and younger audience which happened to include hippies. I prefer other albums recorded from the 69 - 75 era. BB was the big seller and has achieved a legendary status of course. I particularly like Guinnevere from the extended BB sessions, although it didn't make the album. I'm too young to have caught him live in that era but I did catch the comeback tour of 82 and later. Rain
To me, Beethoven's Late Strings Quartets are one of mankind's highest achievements. The Brentano String Quartet recorded them on 3 CDs, and those are my personal favorite recordings - probably the best that I know of (I'm not a connoisseur by any stretch). No 12 is the very first I heard.

No 12 is the very first I heard. Coincidentally, I just watched a movie last week called "The Late Quartet". Released in '12, I'd never seen it. I enjoyed it and they talk about Beethoven quite a bit. Christopher Walken, P. S. Hoffman, Catherine Keener. Good flick, a little soap in it, but that's okay.
Starship Krupa
Many of my favorite songs by artists are accompanied on their albums by less stellar tracks (post Pet Sounds Beach Boys were especially guilty of this, Surf's Up I'm listening to you, or about 2/3 of you, the rest is forgettable or downright bad), so I guess we're rewarding consistency over individual songs. That said, The Cure's Disintegration, Elliott Smith's XO, and Miles Davis' Kind of Blue and The Beatles' Revolver contain my favorite songs by those artists and are otherwise solid. AIR's Moon Safari, not a less-than-excellent track on it, but since "Once Upon a Time" came out on Pocket Symphony, I can't call it my favorite. Favorite to listen to end-to-end? Not that the rest of Pocket Symphony is substandard, it doesn't rise to the heights of anything on Moon Safari. Maybe The Doors. Except that "Back Door Man" is a skipper....
