Alternatives to Perfect Space

Recommended Posts

It is rare but in my long life I’ve known 4 men but only 3 women called Lynn.

Getting back to the issue of using screen readers I wonder how Waveform would work for you? If you activate the help widget it displays a text box that explains what you point the mouse at. I know you can’t use a mouse but it also has very good keyboard shortcuts that are super easy to customize. And it’s free for the basic version.

Are you referring to the button on each track that says, "Waveform preview"? In Caketalking, it automatically announces that, then says "Don't press this button. It will result in unpredictable results!". I'm not sure what that means exactly. I wish someone could explain. What unpredictable results is this referring to?

I have never heard of any problems using Waveform Preview in Cakewalk. This feature offers up a visible approximation of the sound waves in a track while you're recording. I don't think that is something you would need or want. Maybe they mean when using Caketalking and Waveform Preview together.

I think John Vere may be referring to a recording software called Waveform. This is the first I've heard of it, but it does exist.

I'll have to wait to buy that, as I'm having trouble with my funds right now. I know this sounds crazy, but Social Security hasn't deposited Disability benefit funds for me since November of last year, and I'm trying to get those reestablished again, which will definitely take a while.

Have you tried the demo of Waves IR-1 to determine whether it will work for you? If it does, it may be the only option that has the other features you need. I've been looking deeply into convolution reverbs for my own purposes, and I haven't come across any others that are likely to meet your needs.

I haven't tried that yet. Is there a direct link to this plugin? Most important of all, does it have any limitations that I should know about?

Unfortunately, there is no direct link to the plugin itself. Being a Waves product, it requires that you first set up a Waves account and install Waves Central,. Then you choose the individual plugin(s) you want to demo from there. You may need some assistance with navigating that. The instructions are here: https://www.waves.com/support/evaluate-and-demo-waves-products?_gl=1*bjp7g0*_up*MQ..*_ga*MzM5OTk1NzMyLjE3NDUyNjMyNTQ.*_ga_QGSDDSM0JK*MTc0NTY3MzgyMi41LjEuMTc0NTY3NDQ3NC4wLjAuMTg5MTQyNDgzMQ..

The only limitation imposed on the demo versions is the periodic muting of the audio.

I'm trying the Waves plugins, but they're not compatible with my Windows 7 machine. I keep getting this "License Error", and I've followed their instructions to the letter about deactivating and reactivating licenses, but nothing changes. Anything that is compatible with Sonar 8.5, 64 Bit, and screenreader accessible that lets you import .wav files of impulse responses?

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't have any knowledgeable explanation.

Were you trying this with the demo version? If so, it is remotely possible that it would work with the purchased version, but I understand that you probably wouldn't want to risk paying for it only to discover that for whatever reason it doesn't meet your needs. You'd need to find someone with a PC running Windows 7 that is willing to test it for you. I don't have any PCs running Windows 7, but I think there are still a few people around here that do.

If it is a purchased version that is not working, maybe a Waves support person can get it straightened out for you.

I haven't purchased any licenses yet, as I don't have the funds right now.

Yes I was referring to the DAW Waveform formally called Traction. It is as old as Sonar and still owned by the original developer. It has a free version. I bought the full version for only $59 on sale. It has a great tool tip function built in that is like having a teacher looking over your shoulder telling you what each feature is.

If those tool tips can provide audio feedback then you should be able to navigated the software easily. It has an excellent midi interface. it is the only legitimate solution to the free version of Cakewalk.

I was looking for alternatives to PerfectSpace, not Sonar!

The only other idea I have at the moment for a PerfectSpace alternative is Liquidsonic's Reverberate Core. It should work fine on Windows 7, there is a 64bit version, and it may work with a screen reader. It probably has all the features you need. The catch is that it is no longer sold, it is a discontinued legacy product. However, they still make it available to download at this site:

https://www.liquidsonics.com/legacy-software/

It is easy to download and install, you can select the demo option to see if it will work for you. If it does work, Liquidsonics may be willing to provide you with a license for it if you contact them directly and explain the situation. I have no idea if they would do this, but it may be worth a try.

And this is a software that imports .wav files of convolution reverbs and impulse responses, right?

Best Free Convolution Reverb Plugins

Convology XT by Impulse Record

MConvolutionEZ Convolution by MeldaProduction

Magic7 by Wave Alchemy

SIR1 by SIR Audio Tools

Reverberate LE by LiquidSonics

Halls Of Fame 3 Free by Best Service

Easy Convolver by GSi Audio

Atmospheres by ZAK Sound

Reverberate and a couple of these are dual engine. You should look for this. It allows you to run 2 convolutions at one time. You could run a plate and a long hall at the same time. Some allow tail control, lengthening, shorten and eq for each as well.

Yes, it definitely does all that PerfectSpace did and quite a bit more. It will even import the Waves .wir files that you probably downloaded when attempting to get the Waves plugin working. (If you didn't download them, I recommend that you do. Waves makes them freely available, and there are a lot of high quality impulses included.)

If you decide to look into Reverberate Core, you may even want to check out Reverberate 2. It has even more features than Core and comes with more IR files. It also is a discontinued/legacy product that can be downloaded and installed as a demo just like Core. The UI is very similar to Core.

When Liquidsonics came out with the current Reverberate 3, they completely changed the UI, and it is unlikely to work with a screen reader.

So far it works with JAWS, however, it actually told me the demo version expired when I haven't even started yet! But I'm excited that it works with JAWS and my Windows 7 machine! The "demo expired" error started when I scanned for new plugins in Sonar.

Liquid Sonics just gave me a trial license for Reverberate 3, which I've just activated, and so far, I loooooooooooooooooooooooove it a lot!

1. It actually works with Windows 7, JAWS, and Sonar 8.5.

2. I love the sounds of the results.

3. I love the fact that you can actually load .wav files of impulse responses!

The trial license expires on the Fourth of July of all days, and I hope by then it'll still be $99.00 to purchase the full version! I'm rollin' over in buckets of joy just tryin' this out! Too bad the new version only has 64 bit VST and not an additional 32-bit VST. Sonar 8.5 Producer Edition operates both configurations, so I've put in a request for Liquid Sonics to consider that. Hopefully they fully understand my situation.

Reverberate 3 is my favorite convolution style reverb. It’s nice that it has a lot of the biscotti reverb samples built in. The  Spectrasonic Seventh Heaven plugin is only $49 it operates from convolution reverbs. You can’t load your own, but it has a tremendous amount already built in.  Unlike reverberate 3,  it will only load one compilation file at a time. You cannot load you own convolution files. You have to use the built in ones. Liquidsonics is definitely a pro level plugin  vendor.
