Julian Løvlie
Hi all, I'm a noob so sorry for that. I have a roland FP10 piano that i have connected via USB to my computer. I am using sforzando for sound. I am not getting any sound, even inputs are clearly present in cakewalk. Also when i try to export as e.g. MP3, there is no sound in the file. I am able to select the piano as output, and then the piano will work as a speaker. Any obvious fix to this? I have verified that the speaker works of course. I've uploaded all the data i thought would be useful, let me know if there is anything else that would be nice to see.

From what I can see your project doesn't have either a hardware or software synth/instrument to convert MIDI data (such as note on and note off commands) into sound. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer. This is a bit over my head, sorry. I have attempted to add another track with this instrument, same issue. No sound either on the recording or exported file, even though it looks to detect the inputs. Im not quite sure what "synth/instrument to convert midi data into sound (such as note on and note off commands) into sound)" means. Do i need to purchase another thing like a MIDI converter or something in order to record from my piano?

Do i need to purchase another thing like a MIDI converter or something in order to record from my piano? Let me try to be very simple. In both the first project and the new project you only have MIDI TRACKS showing. From what I see, you do not have an INSTRUMENT TRACK showing. MIDI tracks do not make sounds. MIDI tracks contain MIDI data. You need something that will make sound. You said, "I am using sforzando for sound." But so far as I can see you either do not have sforzando inserted into the project as an instrument track or you have not have a sound loaded into sforzando. The first image shows you had track 2 with sforzando but that is not an instrument track. Notice the icon: That tells me track 2 is a MIDI Track. MIDI Tracks do not make sound. If you want to use sforzando, insert it as an instrument (in an instrument track, not a MIDI Track). I do not have sforzando, so I inserted an instrument track with Surge-XT: . Notice the icon looks like a keyboard, not a MIDI plug. Instrument tracks have two components which can be split: Let me repeat myself: So far as I can see, your project only has MIDI TRACKS. It does not have an Instrument Track. To play MIDI data (such as notes) you need something that makes sound. If you have no experience with samplers (such as sforzando), I suggest you start with some synths. Also, the forum has a section with Tutorials (or look on the internet). There are many excellent tutorials that can step you through the basics of how to add instruments and route your controller to them so they make sound. Sorry, but even though you said you were a beginner, I assumed you would know that there are different types of tracks. I hope that is now clearer. User 905133
I do have some Spitfire LABS libraries. They can also be inserted as Instruments. I do not use them, but I gave it a quick test. I did not need to use sforzando to get sound from the LABS Instrument. I selected a keyboard sound in the LABS plugin and played it directly from my usb keyboard. Edited Tuesday at 10:22 PM by User 905133

Record only the MIDI data (that is, note-on / note off data) from the FP-10 into CbB so you can play the notes through the FP-10? So far as I can see from the manual and reference guide, the usb connector does not carry audio but Roland has something called Piano Partner 2 which seems to me to be software that can send audio to Bluetooth devices. If that's what you are trying to do, see this document. Maybe others in the Cakewalk Discuss Community have additional thoughts about any of these possibilities. Julian Løvlie
Thank you so much for replying all. I feel like a fly trying to communicate with Einstein here. The only thing i am trying to achieve is to record myself playing. After some research i found that i could use cakewalk and some virtual instrument to convert the midi inputs from my piano to sounds in cakewalk. I have the Roland app, but that does not allow me to export the recordings in any way. Adding it as an instrument track (see attachment) indeed did make the difference. Now there is sound! But the sound quality is horrible! Why is that?
