Skijumptoes
Interesting. Is this not still iLok though, and just using the machine activation options? Good that you get two activations even with the machine/offline style without a dongle.

Yes...but no physical dongle is required
locrian
Hmm, they're the second company to ditch the iLok that I read about today. I wonder if there's something in common here or this is just a coincidence.
CSistine
More and more I hesitate to purchase iLok plugins. Not because I am an iLok opponent, no on the contrary I have been very happy with the iLok dongle offline activation. I could simply take the dongle to my everyday laptop, add an activation and then bring it back to my recording pc. But in the last years I am concerned that a couple of plugin providers dropped iLok and replaced it by a proprietary authorization system, sometimes even requiring online activation! I hate that! It's not the way I purchased those plugins and I wonder whether this is really legal. The good thing is that this caused me to concentrate my plugin hoarding to those with pure offline authorization, and honestly I own now enough of them so that I am free of the "no more activation" threat! Even my favorite DAW supports a user-friendly activation!

LAGinz
Could someone please send a copy of this to Sonnox, to shame them into finally providing machine based licensing for the Oxford Inflator? 1 1

You're joking right? It already does. As shown it can be activated on an iLok2 (or higher), machine, or Cloud. It you're referring to the incorrect thread title "Slate Ditches the iLok!" listen to the video in the OP. The video doesn't say that Slate has ditched iLok, only that it added the option for computer activation (and added option for 2nd activation). kitekrazy1
I've grown to like iLok. There are downsides to machine activation as well. It triggers hardware changes. Some have gotten it right. There is really no such thing as offline anymore. You still have t go online for some reason. The days are gone when you bought software on a CD, entered the serial number and done.

I hated the iLok until the motherboard unexpectantly died on my audio computer and I ended up replacing the machine. I had my iLok plugins running on the same day I installed the OS on my new machine, it was weeks before I finished installing all the rest.

Sonnox had held off on that option for so long on the Oxford (while offering it on other plugins) that it obviously left me with a lingering trauma.😆
