No input monitoring though I can hear already recorded instruments

Nils Scholl

Question

Hi, i've been using cakewalk for several years now and never had this problem... it randomly appeared today.

I can hear the already recorded instrument tracks (guitar and vocals). But when I try to record something via USB-interface there is no sound even though input monitoring and all being activated. The problem seems to appear during processing since I can see the gain indicator of the interface light up when receiving signal. Weird thing is the recorded stuff (recorded before the problem occured) being replayed correctly. I checked the audio and midi settings and everything seems to be correct... I don't know what to do, help!

Welcome to the forum.
What audio interface are you using?

With the track armed, you should see live input signal in the meter of the track to which you're recording with the transport stopped. If not, the Input of the track is not assigned correctly or your interface driver is misbehaving and needs to be re-initialized by power-cycling or reboot, or the interface internal routing via hardware or software mix control is fouled up. If you can see the signal in the record meter but can't hear it with Input Echo enabled, I can only think that some other track/bus is soloed.

Or, as is the case with my Focusrite Scarlett 4i4, you haven't set the monitor knob to a level that would allow you to hear both.
