Cakewalk crashing on start-up with "Magic Low Latency 2016 - Cakewalk" notification repeatedly appearing

Candle Type 1a

Question

Hiya,

I downloaded Cakewalk yesterday, but upon starting the software up and choosing the Empty Project option, the software just goes Not Responding and the attached notification will appear and disappear continuously. I've never used a DAW before in my life and don't know what this notification means so apologies if it's something basic! The only sound device I have on when this happens is my headphones and I have no audio interface plugged in. I do used Vegas Pro sometimes on this PC but don't have it open when attempting to open Cakewalk. Would appreciate some advice if anyone has any ideas.

Cheers

- Go to Preferences > Audio > Playback and Recording and set Driver Mode to WASAPI (Exclusive if you want best performance from Cakewalk or Shared if you want to  be able to play audio from your browser or  other apps at the same time).

- On the Drivers page, uncheck the Magix driver if you see it there, and check the boxes for your onboard audio Headphone/Speaker output and Mic/Line input.

Please have on your agenda to one day purchase a proper audio interface that comes with Native ASIO drivers.

Then you can uninstall the Magic Low Latency 2016 driver. This is not a true ASIO driver but is a wrapper that makes your non ASIO audio device present to your DAW as a an ASIO driver. Cakewalk does not like any form of ASIO wrapper software.

An example of such an audio interface that comes with Native ASIO drivers is the Focusrite Scarlett Solo.
