No midi events.

If you do the following:

· In Cakewalk, create a MIDI track, enable its input echo and set its MIDI channel to 1
· Route that MIDI track to the M50
· Put some notes in the MIDI track via PRV.
· Playback those notes

Do you get any sound from the M50?

If you do the following:

· In Cakewalk, create a MIDI track, enable its input echo
· Set that MIDI track’s input to the M50 , Omni.
· Set that MIDI track’s output to the M50
· Play some keys on the M50

Does the MIDI Meter show activity and do you get sound from the M50?

Yes to both, as they should be.  I can tell you that midi and audio work as they should except for when the vst editor is introduced.   I also will mention that the m50 does receive messages from the editor to change sounds, meaning i can for instance select a string instrument from the editor and the display on the m50 will show the string instrument.   So there is some communication going on between the editor and the physical m50.  I will hear that string sound when I click on the on screen editor keyboard but no sound from the physical m50.  Neither the on screen keyboard or the physical m50 cause the Sonar track meters to move.  However in standalone mode,  I will hear sound from both the editor keyboard and the m50 keyboard.   Just to add, as with any vst instrument, local control on the m50 is set to off, midi is set to external usb.

I've tried without jbridge, not working.

If this plugin (instrument) is 32-bit, then it is installed in another folder along the route:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Vstplugins -

And then in Sonar, most likely, this folder is missing by default, you need to add it in the settings, rescan all the plugins, and remove the J-Bridge, I am almost completely sure that it does not allow your instrument to function normally. I have 2 very old 32-bit plugins installed in my system - Cakewalk Perfect Space, and TPS Brass module, and I have never had the slightest problem with their operation without any additional bridges for many years. And before that, I also used a set of very old 32-bit plugins from Sonnox for many years, and they always worked without the slightest complaints, which definitely proves that Sonar natively works great with any 32-bit plugins and instruments.

The problem isn't that it's not finding the plugin.   And I'm not running it with jbridge.  Still no sound from the m50.

From the manual!

“The M50 editor doesn’t produce audio “

It’s an editor. All sounds are generated by the Hardware.

I looked at a version of the M50 editor manual I downloaded and also saw this ^^^. I then looked at the discussion.  I could be wrong, but the issue seems to be about MIDI communication, not whether or not the editor itself is producing sound.

Yes.  So the m50 is making sound when I use the editors on screen keyboard but not from the physical m50 when I play it.

Correct.  I am hearing sound when I click on the editor's on screen keyboard but no sound from the physical M50 keyboard.   And in both cases, the meters in my Sonar instrument track are not moving so I can't record.

The m50 may not be producing sound from playing on its on keyboard because its MIDI "local control" is off. That is a preferred and perhaps default function of Sonar to send to MIDI ports when it starts up and addresses the MIDI connections it has. That's a setting that can be changed.

Generally, "local control off" means Sonar intends that you set up the track's routing with "echo on" so that all performance goes in to a Sonar track and then back out to the keyboard. Suitable track settings for input and output are required. And whatever MIDI effects are on the track ought to pass output for any input.

I've tried echo on with local control off, no sound.  With local control on, I hear sound with echo on or off, but no movement of meters so I can't record anything.  I've tried every possible combination of inputs and outputs available, no movement of meters. I can accomplish what I want to do by using the M50's sequencer mode without the editor.   At this point it's become just a challenge to see if I can get the editor to work.  I've reached out to Korg but so far, they haven't been any help.  There are posts all over the internet of people having problems with the editor.   So it may be something that has no solution.  Thanks for your input.

You were able to work your keyboard without the M50 editor. That suggests that the editor is not passing its input forward to the MIDI output. I think we know the editor can send  to the output, but just doesn't pass forward its input. That's either a major bug or there is some config item in that editor that suppresses that routing.

In Sonar there is a taskbar widget (maybe optional?) that shows two little red dots. One shows input received, the other shows output sent. What do you see there?

I'm not messing with it anymore.  I think the Korg driver or the editor caused my audio interface to malfunction.   It was causing notes I played on the keyboard to double.  I had to get Focusrite on the phone and they un-installed the interface and its drivers and reinstalled.  This fixed the doubling problem.  I've un-installed the Korg driver and editor and am not going near it again.  I really appreciate your help.  Thanks.
