Audio to MIDI

What are the best ways to convert audio (vocals) to MIDI? I tried a few with poor results.

It's the only way, really.  (yes, really).

With a clean vocal.

No instruments or effects on the song.

Then do stem separation and use only the vocal stem. The online Bandlab stem separation is quite good.

That would give the best midi from the vocal melody.

So what audio to MIDI would u use after separation with the Bandlab tool? Is there 1 in that tool?

 

I tried Melodyne years ago. Will give it another shot.

I also have tried Samplab but not so good.

I also use Melodyne. It's so easy to move the vocal stem over to the miditrack and have it converted to midi in 20 second. I'm satisfied with the result from Melodyne.

I've read positive things about Neuralnote but haven't tried it yet.

Hey Byron. Melodyne is not just about auto tuned vocals. It has become a very powerful audio editor. I use it for just about everything but auto tune. Timing, amplitude and yes pitch to midi as well as tempo extraction. 
The last two items are critical to my workflow. 
 

This all can be done with the stand alone version. It is also integrated into Sonar far more than any other Daw I have used. 

Most don’t have the drag and drop to the timeline tempo feature. 
A few other Daw’s have built in Audio to midi like Sonar. 
 

I have created hundreds of bass tracks from my own bass recordings. I also now will use stem separation and have had good success with taking the bass line played by the original bass player and creating a midi bass track with that. 
 

Melodyne has become a pretty essential tool and is included with most mainstream Daw’s. 

If you are new to using it you are advised to take the time to go to Celemony web site and watch the tutorials. Don’t try and guess your way around it. That won’t work.
