No they are not. Those some are Adobe audition? Who else? Most do offer plans to renters to monetize, offer a choice to those who can't afford or don't need it long term, but as soon as they switch to sub only "business" people start ditching them. Waves and Reason are vivid examples. Both reverted their shortsighted decisions. There are very good reasons for this, most mentioned above. It's really strange "market" strategy, especially concerning Sonar considering what AI is saying: "Cakewalk, which was once a paid DAW (previously known as SONAR), became free in 2018 after being acquired by BandLab. Despite this, it remains relatively less popular compared to other major DAWs. Cakewalk's market share is likely in the 2-4% range" Edited Monday at 02:27 PM by Misha
Terry Kelley
Right. What we are offered now is rental, not a subscription.
Pathfinder
I forget to ***** the most the important thing for me to my previous post. For my purposes, where the only LIVE AUDIO recorded are my Vocals and guitars, rest all VSTS, Good ole Sonar Platinum serves me just fine if I have to go that route. But I will continue to use CWbyBL until we can't! But I would BUY Sonar Perpetual license tomorrow if it were available.........It's been said before but I truly do NOT see the logic behind this strategy. They, CW have no idea if and how many folks have just passed by and said the heck with this subscription stuff. I don't mean OLD CW users I mean new folks! There is way to tally or even guess at that number. You cannot use traffic because musicians talk to each other on sites all over the world................... If I knew that this thread would devolve into yet another discussion of the subscription / rent-to-use pricing issue I would not have spent the time to find the link to the differences and tried to be helpful by posting it. To be clear, I don't disagree with many of the points raised, I just wish that this thread had remained focussed on factual "Differences Between Sonar & Cakewalk by Bandlab" per the topic.
