jesse g
Folks, I have come to a point in my life in which I have to finally say, NO MORE PLUGIN PURCHASES, (get me off of this train)!!! I thank you kind folks for listening to me as I vent. 😠Have a great day. Edited January 10 by jesse g 3 6
Last Call
Nice to see you realized you don’t need them. We don’t need them (most of them). Stock plugins are just fine.
Tony Carpenter
I reached that point about 6 months ago when all income dried up. Happy new year, may your inbox be free of plugin receipts :).

LAGinz
Funny, I’ve been thinking this too, since about the first of the year. I live in LA and recent events have further crystalized for me the priorities in my life.  How long that will last? I guess we’ll see.

This is my New Year's resolution as well. I have decided to spend this year learning and using the hundreds of plugins I have accumulated in the past 3 years and actually make some music. All the best my friend.
Last Call
SSL channel strip 2 is awesome, super clean, presets actually work. Got it for like 12 bucks. And I got a lot of UAD plugins, just saying 😆 Cubase 14 was a big disappointment because till this day audio performance still sucks, even on a Silicon MAC… Amplitube/TONEX is essential. SD3 I guess too. some Vstis are nice to have, other than that… almost anything is a con…

Amberwolf
Same here; anything that requires an activation (other than a one-time serial / etc input). Long ago got tired of things suddenly deciding they need to talk to daddy before they will let me use them when I'm in the middle of something. I really prefer ones that have no installers, but just let me unzip the files into my plugins folders.   I found so many free (VST mostly) plugins over the years that I have at least one of just about every type of sound emitting or processing plugin; some of them are not very good but others are good enough for my stuff. (some of hte not very good ones are useful for destroying sounds in various ways  ). There are only a handful that I actually use regularly, many of those came with one version of SONAR or another.   But I do collect sounds (samples, loops, etc) to hack apart to use for various bits, sometimes to build entire projects from, sometimes just to accentuate them, sometimes somewhere between. Most of those are free, too, but I did skip some groceries over the holidaze and buy a few of the super-cheap bundle sales, so I have fresh meat in some of my latest projects on http://amberwolf.bandcamp.com
kitekrazy1
I have everything IK and Medla.  I should use those. Oh wait maybe I should use a DAW as well. My new hoarding is tutorials. BTW I have an Axe I/O and I have yet to plug an instrument into it.  SHAME! Maybe with VIs one should limit to 4tb of space. Stop buying bloated libraries. I no longer buy Kontakt synths since Spire and Serum can pretty much do that stuff along with Reason REs,  The only instrument I touched today was my tuba. No DAW or amp required.   Edited January 11 by kitekrazy1
kitekrazy1
Licensing is ,#1 on this list. If I can't put it on 3 machines...forget it.

GTsongwriter
I'm thinking of moving all my plugins into a windows 10 VM on top of proxmox. Currently, I've noticed how buggy windows 11 pro is with plugins and my DAW. nearly crashing it, but on my old computer with windows 10, works flawlessly! So .. Anyone know vendors I'll have issues with moving them into a windows 10 VM?

GTsongwriter
5 hours ago, Promidi said: I wouldn't, simply due to the overhead presented by the VM itself. I wouldn't run any VM inside windows 11 due to how resource heavy windows 11 is. Proxmox is made for this and ia the least resource heavy and it has the ability to do PASS-THRU with GPU and USB, among others. If I run a windows 10 VM on it, I can protect it with Proxmox security and firewall. To the world, windows 10 would appear as a Linux computer. I'm pretty well versed in Linux. I am not worried about a little overhead. The positives outweigh the negatives. Doing this would allow me to upgrade easier, where all I have to do is move the VM to the new computer and I would never have to worry about vendor issues and take advantages of new technologies. I plan to have multiple VMs, one for gaming, one for programming, one for the DAW. This will increase performance of the VMs because the softwares are not competing with one another. [My Positives of Proxmox] - Seamless Switching: Quickly suspend and resume VMs without needing to reboot. - Complete Isolation: Gaming, DAW, and programming workflows are fully isolated, preventing software conflicts. - High Performance: My new system's hardware is well-suited for virtualization. - GPU Passthrough: I have a Dedicated GPU for gaming and integrated GPU for DAW ensures near-native performance. - Low-Latency Audio: Real-time kernel and proper tuning can achieve low-latency for singing and DAW tasks. - Flexibility: Allows me to add new VMs for additional workflows like video editing or testing setups. - Portability: VM migration between systems (e.g., desktop to laptop) is straightforward. - Backup and Snapshots: Built-in snapshot feature is like a backup system onhand. You can install new plugins, and if you don't like them, you can revert back super easy! - Future Scalability: Easily scale workflows and add resources as needed. - Security: Virtualized environments improve isolation and reduce risks of cross-environment vulnerabilities. [Remaining Negatives of Proxmox for Your Use Case] - Compatibility Concerns: Some games (World of Warcraft, World of Tanks, Steam games) may have issues with anti-cheat systems in virtualized environments. - Plugin Licensing: Certain DAW plugins may detect virtualization and cause licensing issues. I'm just curious if anyone has had issues with any vendor putting their plugins on any windows VM?

Thanks, Jesse. It was (and still is) a good forum, but it changed when Larry left. Hasn't been the same but I stick around for the peeps and the occasional no-brainer. Far fewer of those today as I have many of them from the past. They are still no brainers today, and I committed to learning them before moving on to anything else that would do something they can't. I reduced the plugin count over the holidays and added MSoundfactory. I seem to be recording more music as a result. All the best to you. Do stop by once in a while - I really appreciated your posts and thoughts.
