Astraios
will we ever see something like this in any DAW...?
Glenn Stanton
several plugins (samplers, synths etc) have search and filtering as well as marking several types of favorite marking levels so organzing your often used samples and instruments is faster than mindless scrolling... in CbC and Sonar you can organize your own favorite FX and instruments - but it's not adhoc. i do use the filter on the FX browser and media browser to reduce the effort to find something...
Sock Monkey
Cakewalk is a bit clunky. Other Daw’s I use I find most are as simple as open the keyboard shortcuts in preferences, find the function and just type my own shortcut It will warn you if it is already in use, Click yes. Done. And instantly useable. I did this for almost every Daw I was trying out because I’m so used to using the W key to restart. Muscle memory is hard to break.

If you mean the "shortcut manager" you specify in the title of the thread, Cakewalk has had one for a very long time, as far back as I can remember. It's under Options KeyBindings in my version. It doesn't show a keyboard as your graphic for Unity does, and it's kinda unrefined and not as easy to use as it could be, at least as of the old version I use, but it's there, and you can assign or reassign most of the shortcuts in the program to suit your needs. It even has presets to emulate other DAWs' shortcut arrangements, and you can save your own setups and switch between them as needed. (so you could have a setup that makes all the stuff you need instant access to for a specific workflow like recording / comping / etc in easy, then another that makes workflow like midi editing easy, etc). If you mean something else, then be as specific as you can about what you're after. 1

Ever since I learned how to use it [Cakewalk's "Shortcut Manager" (aka Keyboard Shortcuts)] it has been a very good friend. Menu Bar > Preferences [check Advanced at the bottom] > Customization > Keyboard Shortcuts Even though it doesn't show the keyboard as a graphic, I appreciate not having that, mainly because I have my PC's keyboard in front of me. It does have a "Locate Key" function which for me serves the same function as an on-screen virtual keyboard. I defer to the historians in the forum to tell us when Cakewalk software first allowed us to manage our [non-reserved] keyboard shortcuts. To me it seems like forever, but I don't have all my old versions installed on my current audio PC. Astraios
That's right, before 2016 (or 14..?) the Shortcut Editor was a separate window. Then it was squeezed into the Preference window. Basically, there isn't enough space for this application in there. For years, it seems to me that the Cakewalk Company has had no real interest in users questioning their shortcut concept. It feels like 20% of the Sonar manual refers to these commands that they have defined. The editor is extremely difficult to understand, although it is well programmed. But there is a lot of stuff that doesn't really make sense, such as these individual, special areas that basically need to be rethought. I have spent many years working with the editor and have also made one or two YT clips about it... There are a lot of things that can be improved, but I don't think that more than a few people are interested in that. Astraios
This is the only place where you can see all the current commands that exist in Sonar at once. Unfortunately, you cannot edit the window, and thus the commands cannot be copied and then edited, which would be useful if you want to implement your own ideas...
