"Lake Katherine" an acoustic ballad

this is a next-to-final mix, 
checking out the FLAC format for the first time.
this will be on the upcoming bats brew "The Wild Animals" album.

The FLAC process makes it seem a bit soft to me for some reason.
looking for overall playback balance comments.

It sounds very mid range (harsh) to me on my Focal Trios.
Maybe that's because I am used to mastering Mark Skinners music.
But we all paint very different pictures.

Wow - acoustic chops as well - I like the guitar tone a lot. Is that a 12-string my ears can detect or is it just the multi tracking confusing my brain (it doesn't take much these days). 😂

mid harsh, i'm not getting any harsh at all on my playback, both loud and soft.

but i don't want it harsh!!

know you'll have me chasin' my tail.

i'll hunt that harsh down and give it all night detention.

I am only trying to be helpful.. 
I dont mean to confuse and call you problems.  😞
I like the song and think its well composed.
If you would like me to give it ago on mastering  I would be more than willing to help  (as I said we all paint different pictures for sure).
I'm not trying to say I know it all,  I just hear things differently-

thanks for listening to this one. i do a lot of acoustic guitars, but don't post a lot.

there are no 12 strings, just my Taylor 414.

i do higher voicings, and layer them, so i can get 'faux' 12 string sounds sometimes.

i've got 3 rhythm parts going at the same time, and the 3rd one is doing high parts, i'm sure that's what you are hearing.

Ah that explains it, those Taylors are sweet guitars. I used to have a 314CE but I traded it for a T5z. The latter is a lovely instrument - and definitely more versatile - but it can't reproduce that sweet acoustic tone I used to get from the 314. The T5z body sensor pickup amplifies way too much string squeak for my taste, so I rarely use that setting.

ha, only problem with my taylor is, it's so big!

it's bigger than i am! LOL

but it has a lovely sound.

i only ever use microphones to record my acoustics, and that can be problematic with this big auditorium sized box, it has a lot of lows.

i have to watch out for proximity effect, and usually pull the microphone all the way up to the neck joint, or well past the sound hole.
