Event List woes...

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I'm having a strange problem with the Event List.  You see, no data is displayed, no matter how I try to tinker with the theme or colours.  I mean, I'm having no trouble at all with any other programmes on my machine (freshly updated Windows 11), because at one point I suspected the display driver could be causing troubles.

Any suggestions would be heartily appreciated.

Thanks a million times in advance.

The screen shot shows a track and it's clip(s) selected, AFAICT.

Since the EL shows "note" in the type field, it implies that there are note events in each of those, but that for whatever reason the actual note data is not visible.

If it is not a resolution issue, perhaps it is a color issue--such as the data color and the background color are identical or so similar they can't be distinguished by eye.

The screenshot itself doesn't appear to have any difference in color in any of the pixels in the data fields, when I adjust contrast/hue/etc in a viewer, so it's most likely that the color for text and background are identical, or that something is preventing the display of the data but not the data type.

BTW, the OP appears to have been having this problem for at least a year and a half, given this post from april 2023

Oh, yes! I've trying to solve this issue for some time, in vain...

I tried and tried to catch where I could change the EL background, suspecting the same problem, but couldn't find that bit anywhere.  As mentioned in my original post, I did try to change the theme or its details, but to no avail.

I hope a solution could be found...

What display resolution / scaling are you using?

IIRC CbB has a minimum screen resolution requirement, so if your resolution is too small on some view the data won't fit into the cells.

The resolution on my machine is 1440x900.  I hope the png attached gives an idea.

Under View, what do you have selected?

Good thought, but as the OP pointed out, the view is showing 'Note' events in the Kind column, and even showing them all selected, but not showing the data for them.

I does look to be some sort of system-level display issue, but I can't think what it might be other than scaling or some issue with specific display driver being used.

Let me just add another, even more frustrating, note:

I'm having this same problems on two different machines: a desktop with an NVIDIA card, and an HP laptop (which happens to have another NVIDIA chip...).

This is the reason I had posted an earlier call for help almost two years ago, and then now.

Are these systems using English language? There have sometimes been odd issues like this specific to certain system locales.

Are you using the NVidia drivers?  If so, can you try reverting to the base Windows drivers instead?

Or, if you are using the base Windows drivers (by Microsoft, rather than NVidia), then try the Nvidia drivers.

I have had odd display issues with Nvidia-specific drivers now and then over the years ever since they started up (often in 3D-modelling programs doing 3D rendering, but sometimes in the regular parts of various programs. I don't recall an issue like this specific one you have, but it wouldn't surprise me if it turns out to also be an issue).

As a matter of fact, I did try something (I suppose similar) on the laptop;

So, through the NVIDIA control app, I switched back and for between the Intel chip/NVIDIA chip, still with no difference in the Event List display.  I'm not sure of a better way of doing it.  I did consider uninstalling the driver, or even deleting the hardware from the Control Panel/Devices, but I wasn't quite sure how the whole system would function then...

In Device Manager (in the System control panel, I think (they keep changing where things are in Windows control panels in various updates), but can be accessed a number of ways, including rightclicking on My Computer icon and choosing Manage), you can double click on a specific device and look at the drivers tab.   There is usually an option to revert to a previous driver.

You may need to uninstall the NVidia software suite first to try the Microsoft built-in driver, but you can try it without that first.

Keep in mind that this is just a guess as to what's wrong and isn't a high chance of fixing it...but it's worth trying.
