DeBro
This song "As The Years Go Passing By" was originally done by the late bluesman Albert King. Many musicians have covered this song over the years. So, I decided to do my cover version as a solo project recorded at my home studio. I upped the tempo and gave it a reggae rhythm. Plus, along with my vocals, I added my own lead guitar riffs. Recorded and mixed in Cakewalk By Bandlab. My lead guitar output is processed by TH3. Rhythm guitar - Native Instruments Guitar Rig. Mute Guitar - straight output. Bass guitar - midi events into IK Multimedia Modo Bass. Organ - midi events into IK Multimedia B-3X. Drums - midi events into XLN Audio Addictive Drums. Click on the link below to listen. TheMaartian
Really nice cover, Derek! Tasty lead guitar! I thoroughly enjoyed the reggae arrangement of this classic song. One little quibble. Being a bassist, I hate to say this, but to my ears, I think I would have liked your cover even more if the bass track was reduced in volume 1 dB or so relative to the other instruments and voice. I listened to it on my high end Focal monitors that I have EQ'd to my studio, which can be a bit boomy.
Wookiee
Interesting take, a noted by @TheMaartian the Bass is a little to forward, other than that it has a very Reggae mix feel
treesha
Well put, reggae meets the blues. Glad to see some reggae around here. Nice job. Especially the guitar playing. I disagree with the other comments about the bass being too forward. I think its just right. Long time reggae bass player here. Learned with the rastas. One thing I think would make your song even better is adding some horns. Backing vocals would add also, but just my 2 cents on additions. Enjoyed it. DeBro
Thanks to all who have commented in the post. In reggae music, the bass guitar is very prominent and up front. I did reference a number of reggae songs while doing the mix on the same speaker system. Anyhow, here's a short video of a screen capture while the mix was being played. It shows the EQ plot and frequency analysis for the bass line. Click on the link below to view. Bass EQ Plot and Frequency Analysis
