Their intrusive Windows App Manager (or whatever they called it; I can't remember). Uninstalling it doesn't get rid of a ton of crap that it installed in the first place. I spent quite a bit of time tracking down all of the files the uninstaller left behind and in the Registry Editor cleaning all of it up. [/rant] Cant you just remove UA Connect form startup ? (edit seems not) Edited November 27 by topaz

There's no shortage of good plugins these days.

But then that's my general experience versus using Windows, no need to go searching through the registry to clean up remnants, or searching through task schedulers to find out why something is starting up without my prior approval. Not so glad to be paying paying those apple SSD prices though! . I here you. I recently decided to price out a new Mac Studio M2 Ultra, configured similarly to my Lenovo P17 ThinkPad with 7 TB of SSD. By the time I was finished adding RAM and SSD, 27" display, keyboard and mouse, I was over 6K €. I think I'll stick with what I know. I was writing assembler TSRs for MS-DOS back in the '80s. Been stuck in that ecosystem ever since. Oddly, after years of listening to complaints of Windows upgrades hosing users' systems, it's now MacOS users who have to be cautious about OS upgrades. Most of the anti PC is a myth. Then again people bought cheap laptops will eventually look toward buying Apple. I know I would but I detest portability and small screens. The costs of the upgrades for Apple are pretty comical. You could build an entire AMD, or Intel system with just the fat on top that Apple charges to upgrade to 8TB SSD! 🤣 The stock spec for RAM and storage should be much higher for the price of the unit to start with. They're often targetted towards multimedia, so the base spec is very low. I've personally never had a Windows update hose a system. I have had Apple updates render a whole heap of plugins and instruments incompatible though. Unfortunately in cases where the developers are no longer in business, there is no solution. It's either new Apple OS, or keep using your older plugins. Edited Thursday at 09:18 PM by MusicMan

I just priced out a Mac M4 Pro Mini with 64 GB RAM, 4 TB internal SSD and Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro preinstalled, monitor, keyboard and mouse. Almost 7K €. Instead of buying that, I bought a Lenovo ThinkVision 27" 4K monitor to connect to my Lenovo ThinkPad P17 and a Logitech keyboard that utilizes the Unifying receiver that my Logitech mouse uses. 840 € total. I'll keep the remaining 6K € to invest in basses. The only major problems I had with Windows updates was the update from Win7 to Win10. That broke a bunch of stuff, like the driver for my audio interface. That driver was never updated for Win10, so I have to buy a new interface. I don't know how they get away with it really, all it's doing is crippling their end users experience. They design these very efficient machines that are nice and portable, as slim as possible an run for hours on battery. So this idea that it's ok to hang an external drive off the side of them goes against that principle for me. If they charged 200 per TB they would be making a serious cut on them, and I think most people would think it's expensive but not insanely so. Especially as so many people opt for the monthly options. Luckily I got my machine on a costco deal so was much reduced, otherwise anything else 2tb and over is silly priced. However, when i done my accounts this year i have to estimate cost of electricity and the difference in running a silicon Mac vs a desktop PC is quite significant. It's about 90% cheaper to run - which alone saves me back a few hundred a year. Hopefully Windows ARM works out well.
