I don't remember seeing it st less than 25% but like @hsmusicĀ mentioned, you can get it cheaper from everyPlugin. You basically figure out what you want to add the WUP to in your Waves account, then choose the "Buying from a local Dealer" link and it will give you a code.

Send it to everyPlugin and they'll give you a quote. If you like it, they'll send you a PayPal link where you put in the code. I don't know when they sleep because they seem to reply pretty quickly anytime of the day or night.

It's pretty quick and always a bit cheaper.

Thanks everyone for the feedback and information.
As tempted as I am to jump on this I'm going to hold off till BF or later if they don't have a 25% off or similar sale going on.
Since I'm too slammed at the moment to complete any of my projects, let alone start new ones, it doesn't make sense to buy in now and let my WUP start counting down.

I don't remember them reducing the WUP price during BF, I think they'd want to "capture" some renewals for plugins purchased during the previous year's BF, but the 25% off comes up a couple of times a year anyway.

@GTsongwriterĀ You get 1 year of WUP for free when you register a plugin or a bundle. "Real bugs" are rare and generally ironed out by the time that 1y expires. I pay for WUP renewals when I want the new plugins that have been added to the bundles I have. Another reason for getting WUP would be for versions that add support for newer OS or chipsets (this mostly impacts Apple users, I use Windows and I cannot remember when it was the last time that older versions of Waves didn't run on newer Windows) or updates related to hardware evolution, like high-dpi

I am not a WUP "addict" that renews every time it expires, but I was very annoyed when it was temporarily discontinued in early 2023. It does have its usefulness.

I don't think anyone should have to pay for updates.Ā  The only thing I think could be charged for is a small upgrade fee for major new features.Ā  Updates that has had bugs should be covered for a lifetime.

(I wrote this last night and never posted - it echoes a lot of what @Eusebio Rufian-ZilbermannĀ just posted in different words hahaha)

I used to feel that way, too. But after a computer upgrade recently, I tried to reinstall plugins I was using in the past to open up my projects and many don`t work on newer systems. So many of the hundreds of projects I have worked on are no longer fully functional. Those developers didn`t charge for updates, instead most of them released a version 2 (or 3, 4, 5 whatever) and the old ones are no longer supported or updated.

There is some value to me in knowing that the plugins in a very old project will open seamlessly going forward. If it costs every few years to get them back up to date, I'm ok with that. I know a lot of people aren'tĀ that fond of WUP but I'm one of the few who actually don't mind it.

Of course, it can depend on the situation and the types of projects people work on.

I got a ton of new plugins on my last WUP! All that AI stuff. Sync VX, Clarity Ā Deverb and denoise,, IDX dynamics (haven’t tried yet) Curves AQ (I like this one!) the clarity stuff is great too.Ā
edit

I usually wait till there are a few plugins I would like to have.Ā

If I was really into Waves I would just do their sub and never deal with WUP.

The thing I don't like with Waves upgrades is they remove the license of the other product.Ā  That's what also makes them unique.Ā Ā

This. I can't remember a Waves plug-in even crashing in my many years of using their freebies, much less having a repeatable bug.

Another reason is when older plug-ins have been given UI facelifts. Some of the tried-and-true ones like Renaissance Vox and SuperTap have gotten makeovers so that the "party like it's 2002" 3-D fake metallic look is left behind. Although SuperTap is probably the most advanced multi-tap delay that doesn't come from MeldaProduction, It's never made it into my projects due to the yoogly UI.

I feel shallow admitting this, but dated UI's do make me less likely to use a plug-in. I'd been neglecting Addictive Drums 2 for years before 2.5 introduced the new, modern UI, then suddenly it piqued my interest. I wish looks didn't matter, but they do. Best electric guitar I've ever tried is the Parker Fly, and despite the fact that used ones are now becoming affordable, I just can't take that look.

There are two types of UI that I find engaging: either the flat look that's currently considered "modern" or the very skeuomorphic design like T-RackS. My least favorite is the uncanny valley 3-D faux brushed aluminum, it seems as outdated to me as simulated woodgrain on small appliances. I've never needed my computer programs to resemble imaginary physical objects, but if the goal is to look like well-crafted rack mount gear, nobody does that better than IK Multimedia (IMO). Maybe UAD, but I can't afford UAD's products. IK don't put fake "wear marks" on the TRackS panels, they have dabbled in non-functional screws but have phased those out. If IK ever decide to go flat, it will be a sad day for me.

As Waves phase UI updates in, I may WUP some of my oldies. I imagine that TrueVerb will end up looking like the newer SuperTap.
