Zoom R24 not working as a contol surface

PaulB

Question

I have a Zoom R24 which I've connected to my laptop via usb. I've installed the latest driver and configured it in Cakewalk using all standard settings. It works fine as an audio interface (both input and output) but it won't work as a control surface. When I press playPlay/Record/Stop in Cakewalk the LEDs on the relevant buttons on the R24 light up but none of the buttons will do anything when pressed. I've checked the 'disable hanshsake' box in Cakewalk's mackie settings as this is mentioned in other places but this makes no difference. Any ideas what i can try next?

So it sounds like at least data is getting from Cakewalk to the R24.

Double check the MIDI input device settings in Preferences->Control Surfaces.

Also make sure all the MIDI event types are checked in the Record section of Preferences->MIDI ->Playback and Recording.

Finally, in the Mackie Control Surface dialog, try setting it to Cubase emulation.  To be honest, it shouldn't really matter as the transport/fader controls are standard across all DAWs, but the R24 manual only shows examples for Cubase LE (which I assume was shipped with it), so it was obviously designed to work with Cubase.
