Jorge Alvarez
Hi, has anyone encountered issues when importing MIDI files from Ultimate Guitar into Cakewalk? After importing, my VST sounds stop working, even though they are correctly set up. MIDI tracks created directly in Cakewalk work fine, but after importing, the MIDI doesn't play any sound, though the audio meter shows activity. Only the audio clips in my project are audible. Any solutions or tips?

Promidi
Need more information. After you have imported your MIDI data, where have you routed your MIDI tracks to? Which VSTs are you using> Does the MIDI data contain any NRPN or RPN events. Some VSTs stop producing sound when they encounter NRPN or RPN events. As mentioned use the Event Viewer to check for non note or non CC events. MIDI channels might also matter. I always make sure any MIDI tracks or SITs (Simple Instrument Tracks), I have in a project, have their respective MIDI channel set to a specific MIDI channel rather than “none”

Any solutions or tips? Sometimes some MIDI data can cause certain synths to stop working. One thing you could do is open the Event List and remove the non-note entries prior to trying to play the project, then see if it works correctly. Aside from removing that MIDI data beforehand, another thing that could fix these kinds of problems would be to tell the synths not to intercept that data. You can do that in the plugin manger: A test for this could also be using TTS-1 or a similar GM player to see if that's outputting audio from that same MIDI data.

Any solutions or tips? I've not encountered any where the guitar wouldn't play but often there is a lot of unneeded/messy midi data. I usually import onto a blank track that isn't routed anywhere and then gradually copy sections over to the live VST track, removing things as I go. It just helps me keep track of what I'm doing as often if I'm doing a cover I'll bounce between things.
